6R mpg talk & cluster speed accuracy

Post by Bear807 »

I know is not sensible to talk mpg here  . But I really want to know what sorts of mpg everyone gets.
I'm a little bit Eco driver, my previous car was a jazz ( I'm 25+ not uncles or grannies) I could get49- 57mpg.
Having ownership in a month with 6r 1.2 60ps, I get range from 43-55 max, which is not impressive, because the claim figure is 61mpg extra urban. I wonder how they manage to achieve that. Did you all notice the cluster speed inaccuracy is 5mph? I wanted to know is it normal? Since polo 1.2 doesn't comes with mpg computer, I have get myself an ultragauge, I think it will be useful to those economical driver like me!

Hi mate,

I own a 1.2 TSI and I can safely say the MPG figure quoted are spot on and if not a bit on the low side. I often obtain a higher figure than quoted in the brochure, when doing a long commute. However, I have had a courtesy car whilst mine was in for a routine product check on the turbo and they lent me a 1.2 60 for a few days and I was quite suprised at how lively the engine was but I was astonished at how quick I went through a tank of juice. Needless to say, from my experience I got no where near the quoted MPG.

On a side note, I have noticed considerable and worthy gains when using BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power fuel, maybe worth giving that a shot to see if it's worth the additional cost :)

Lol that was really funny the way you described the 1.2. Probably you thrashed the engine XD, I think it was fine for first 3 gear 50-60 takes forever. Tsi is still so great compare to the 1.2 :D

Bluemotion owner. avg 63.4 mpg overall. The most I had on a commute from work is 78 mpg (35 miles). Lets just say Miss Daisy could have been with me. However since owning my Polo the fuel consumption when I use my Type R has gone down from 31mpg to 28 mpg. I guess I'm a keener driver when I take it out.

My wife has a 1.2 60 and I'm impressed with he MPG gets about the same as my 2.0 TDI Passat, 50mpg is easy on a motorway with 38 round town.

My GTI does 45 with relatively sensible driving on a run and 38 driving a bit hard/around town.

I only get 43mpg from my 1.4 match and I drive very gently. I think the standard 1.4 is a pretty crap engine TBH, Suzuki can squeeze 93bhp from their 1.2 and it's more efficient and faster than the VW 1.4.

My Polo GTI can still manage an average on a tank of 44mpg if I drive like Miss Daisy on a motorway!

Normal running is approx 25-35mpg around town and on track it reduces into the low to mid-teens.

Still I guess it isn't bad to say it is running 255+bhp from a 1.4!!

Re. the cluster speed. Accuracy against my GPS meter is virtually spot on up to 30mph. Above this it tends to go out by around 2mph every 10mph until you get to 100mph and then it stays around the same....14-16mph out up to 160mph on the speedo.

Driving a 1.4 SE I manged about 58-65mpg with a 33 mile commute to work 2/3rds Motorway. Town I can get anywhere between 40 and 50 MPG.I usually avergae on a tank about 55Mpg (according to the computer) which cant be too far from the real consumption as I clock up about 400-430 miles when my range finally reaches 100miles (1/4 a tank). Im not sure why my MPG is high to be honest, Im tempted to keep the car after the 3 year term and not get a deisel version now I do 20k miles a year.

MPG figures are almost meaningless as they depend on so many factors. I have now made 5 long distance continental trips in my 1.5 16V and what comes out very clearly is what a difference speed makes - ignoring stop/start accelerating etc. but just sitting there with cruise control on.

Autobahn belts at 150KPH (about 93mph) will push up a 600 kilometer trip's consumption to less than 43MPG. But take the speed down to 110KPH (70mph) and I get over 60MPG
