I never knew that a OE rubber mat exists to cover the tunnel hump in 6R

It's very common site in our country to see people drive with factory wrapped plastic covers on seats, trims and sun visors for many years iichel.😂

Thanks for sharing ag69 👍

We love to be the first to break those plastics or protections as soon as the product is received, although it is usually the vw dealer itself who does it.

If we all did the same this would be very boring.
I love to see different things than I do, and some of those things are very intriguing ...

Need advise on (Driver) Armrest with Rear AC Vent

Newer Polo, Ameo and Vento have option of Armrest and Armrest with Rear AC Vent.
An armrest without AC Vent is very easy to install, just remove last part of center console ie 6RU 858 373 A which is called storage bin.
Insert 4 or 5 leged base of armrest. Either wiggle or remove the center console 6RG 863 243 K and you are good.

Now about challenging option -- Armrest with AC Vent.
After going through Etka logical flow is as below:
Air Distribution --> Connecting piece (6Q0 819 159 C) --> Air Guide Channel (6RF864255) --> Armrest
Image --> Image --> Image --> Image

Here is Etka for Climate Control MY2021
Image

Here is Etka for Climate Control MY 2015
Image

I somehow sneaked camera and could get a picture of Air Distribution housing 6Q0 819 875 D or 8Z2 820 351 A
And it seems to be blocked or closed.

Now does anyone has any idea if one needs to put a hole to bottom part of 6Q0 819 875 D or 8Z2 820 351 A? and connect rest of parts to get it working?
Or is there anything which I am imagining and missing all together?

There is already a hole in the bottom, to blow air to the outlets below the front seats.

Thanks for quick reply iichel.
Actually I can feel the metal channels but there is no hole means outlets for rear footwell under driver and passenger seats.

Image
This is not state of my car but a reference image.

So car has left, right and center outlet
And (front) left and right footwell only.

Okay. I guess the housing itself will have the hole.

Got hold of a car which had its dashboard removed. Though they are from different years. Most of parts are common.

In addition to my previous study -- Having a slot or hole at "7" or "8" is wrong. It is closed box/fitting.

So sharing my observations here.

1. 6RG 815 077 needs to be replaced with 6RF 815 077. This has side openings.
2. Then we need 6RF 857 509A that would get connected. It is "Y" shaped air channel duct.

Air Distribution --> 6RF 815 077 instead of 6RG 815 077 -- > 6RF 857 509A -- > 6Q0 819 159 C --> 6RF864255 --> Armrest

However it seems the dashboard have different parts mentioned:
6RG 857 003T to 6RF 857 003AF
So seems VW made bulge to accommodate these attachments to fits.

Rats and Cats -- > Added picture
Rats and Cats around my place have made some kind of pact and decided to damage my engine sound guard (6R0863831B)
Image

Don't know who or how it who started but guard started becoming loose and sagged. This resulted in slots not remaining in the groove.

Rats $hIt on battery. They go inside engine guard and eat the bits of foam. Sleep and again $hIT
Cats on the other hand as and when its cold sleep in engine bay. Verification is hair all over engine sound guard.
If that is not enough they have scratched all over bonnet :(

VW says -- this guard looses structure strength or firmness -- because of water.
I don't recollect washing it or spraying water.

So to fix this -- got some interior carpet cloth. Got it stitched to existing guard in center. Wrapped in around and stitched it.
Cut the cloth so that slots were extended by around 2"
Inserted some nylon and got it stitched. Now the end slots are longer from 1" to nearly 3" and also have become firmer.

Dual Tone Horn

A big thanks to iichel for quick responses to help me.
Volkswagen gave dual tone horn to some models and single high tone horn to some.
Surprisingly on removing bumper to check fog lights -- I stumbled upon a connector with dummy cap.
So it should have been easy -- remove entire bumper for easy access. Put on bracket with bolt. Remove dummy cover on existing connector and insert it in new horn, tighten the nut and we are good. BUT ......

As with my past DIY -- simplest of things get not only time consuming but tedious.

My RHD Polo has/had High Tone Horn (6R0951223B) on LHS of car ie passenger side.
OEM High Tone Horn on LHS
Image
Horn Wiring with connector on RHS
Image
Closer look at dummy connector on RHS. It has cavity connectors.
Image
Once dummy connector was removed. Horn male connectors would slide in. But there was no "click" sound of lock.
Neither did new horn or old horn would lock. And honk or work!
So checked dummy cover and thought some part would be needed. This is how inside of dummy connector looks like
Image
After struggling to unlock and pull pink colored tab :(
iichel guided with quickest response. It was unlocked and removed.
But it would not fit in female connector on RHS which was provided.

We checked old and new horn on existing connector LHS and it would lock and honk
However both new and old horn on RHS (where dummy cover was) it would neither fit nor honk.

So took a wire with bulb and checked if we are getting current. Bulb lit up.
Then we checked the wiring and suddenly saw the numbering on connectors.
And checked numbering which is beside the male connectors on horn.
And guess what they were opposite or reverse.
This is how they are numbered :
Image
Now began the fight to remove the connector gracefully.
Pulled out "D" bracket inside the connector and rubber seal.
Now used this tool to push in from connector side and pull the wires from back.
Image
Reversed it and that's it.

Horn is installed. Though high tone sound overshadows or suppresses low tone. At least have peace to have one more empty slot or connector made functional.

Parts used :
    • Low tone Horn -- 6RF951221B
    • Bracket -- 6RF951181D
    Image
    • Hexagonal Nut -- N 01508210
    Image
    • Bolt
    Tools used :
    • T20 Screw driver -- to remove bumper
    • Spanner to tight bolt and nut
    • Tool removal kit
    • spare wires
    • A bulb
    • Hotline to iichel
    For those trying this --
Check numbers on connector and horn -- which would be inside horn connector
Remove "D" clip and squeeze and Push female connector with above or similar tools.
Put it in appropriate order and you should be good.

Did you remove the entire bumper for this? It should be possible, yet tricky, to do this with the front bumper in place. You only need to remove the fog light and its grill.

On the EU polo, both horns are on the LHS, and they use the same bracket. Catalogue image 951-000.

    Yes iichel.
Previously we had removed just right fog lamp cover and fog lamp. But access was bit less.
With entire bumper removed it was easy working.
Specially with this wiring — it became blessing in disguise.

    :)

    Horn videos are really hilarious!!!

Yes service center officially have "Dual Tone Horn Kit" fitment offered. But no idea if they use existing cable with some sort of splitter or use new wiring to install additional horn.

Connected VCDS and did Auto Scan and guess what 09 Central Electric shows Malfunction

    Code: Select all

    1 Fault Found:
03591 - Control Circuit for Horn
    			011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent
    			 Freeze Frame:
    					Fault Status: 00101011
    					Fault Priority: 3
    					Fault Frequency: 8
    					Reset counter: 196
    					Time Indication: 0
    Cleared all DTC
But it seems to come up again.
    Horns are working

I'd be interested to see, where this extra RHS wire is originating from to be honest.
