Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Just brought my rear tyres to the front and put fronts on the rear on my BlueGT. Now the two front tyres seem noisier, might be because of the extra tread? Torqued all wheels to 120nm so they aren't overtightened. Tyres are Dunlop Sport Maxx RT all round, which in my opinion are noisy anyway, however, not usually this loud.

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Is the rotation correct?
Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Yes, I swapped the front and rear left side over first, then did the front and rear right side as all of the tyres are directional.

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Swap front right to rear right, front lenft to rear left
I think you messed up if you think about it

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
I get what you're saying, however, the arrows on each tyre are pointing in the correct direction

More like of a question at to why you swapped?
Best tyres should always be on the rear.

Never, you dont drive a rwd car. Understeer is more deadly than oversteer
Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Some people say it's best to rotate tyres for even wear, others say leave the best tyres on the rear. To be honest, I'll swap my wheels back over tomorrow and consider going for Goodyear Eagle f1 Asymmetric 5' all-round once the front Dunlops wear till around 2.5mm. They're fantastic tyres in terms of dry/wet grip, however, the rather loud humming noise is even more noticeable now that I've swapped the rears and fronts over.

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
I wont agree, your front tires have to put power down, brake and steer. And add aquaplaning. Most drivers under panic situation will just put more gas or steering input in understeer, and not all trtes understeer the same some just snap. While in FWD on oversteer turn where you want to go ans gas witch people do on yheir instinct.
If oversteer was harder, then no sports car wouldnt be RWD

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
To the OP, it sounds like your car has a wheel geometry issue that was okay until you swopped fronts to rear.
Check by running your hand over each tyre moving front to rear on each one, you will probably detect “toothing” or a sawtooth effect on some of the tyres.
Edit:- I’m assuming that you have retained the correct direction of rotation.

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
Tyre noise is caused by air being 'squished' in the grooves and forced out.
This is why offroad and winter tyres are noisier, because the grooves are bigger = more air being squished = more noise
So slicks are also the quietest tyres.
This might explain what you're noticing, assuming everything else is OK.
You didn't notice the noise behind you, but now it's in front of you you're noticing.

Re: Tyres unusually loud after rotating?
I rotated my wheels a fortnight ago (bluegt) -- can't say I noticed any difference in noise (my tyres are Pirelli) tho'
