VW Polo 6R BCM upgrade and Auto lights retrofit

Post by nirvnv »

Hello!

I opened this topic as ciclo sugested to document my intention to upgrade my Polo 6R MY2011 BCM in order to retrofit the Autolights funtion.

Till now i have read on this forum all the information i thought important regarding this retrofit and so i have already purchased some parts i know it will be needed.

I already have these parts:
- two BCMs, 7E0 937 090 and 6R0937088F
- RLS: 1K0955559
- VW golf MK6 auto dimming interior mirror
- light switch: 5ND941431B

I have done myself a wiring loom based on one of ciclo schematics, the difference is that I do not used those plug adapters, I destroyed an old light switch and soldered the wires to the pins. That way I can connect the original connector from the car to my wiring loom.

I follow this guide from ciclo:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2nv91 ... E1bk0/view
But I realised that this must not be the correct schematic for me because in the schematic the pin 6 and 7 of the headlight switch are empty and on my Polo i have a wire on each of those pins.

I own also an Audi A4 8K model and i have done a lot of mods on it and so i am quite familiar with wirin looms, Elsawin schematics and other technical concepts used on these kind of mods.

I am just a litle bit stuck on this one because I searched ELSAWIN for the connections and couldnt find them.

Hello nirnvn.

Forget about the BCM 6R0937088F, it is for models with start/stop system, use the 7E0 model.

The adaptation to BCM Max is done for several reasons, but mainly because the original wiring of your 6R for the lighting system is based on electrical signals and is not correct for the electronic management of some functions (automatic lights, Bixenon headlights, etc...), hence you have pins 6 -drls- and 7 -twin headlights- occupied by cables in the original connector of the light switch and some other cables that are not connected to the BCM.

My automatic lights scheme is correct for you if you do the BCM adaptation, and you cannot find the diagrams in ELSAWIN because the magnificent POLO 6R never had the factory option for automatic lights. :)

Well, instead of going into more explanation, it is best that you post a picture of your fuse box in which I can see all the fuses, and a picture or two in which I can see the colors of the original wires that reach your original T17 connector (or whatever is minimally understandable due to the current situation).

With that and the autoscan already posted, I'll tell you with a link to a tutorial what you have to do to adapt the BCM.
The BCM 7E0 will need to be coded correctly for everything to work as it should.

Yes, i concluded that the 6R Polo never came factory equiped with Auto lights since there is no ESLSA information i could find related to it.
This is really stupid since it came with RLS, so why VW just dont add the auto light option?

I will take some pictures today and post them here for you to see

Much appreciate your help on this

Sorry, for asking, but is it possible to retrofit the autolights with the 088F BCM?

I am asking this because the 6R0...088F BCM I got it free and the 7E0 I bought it from a car parts warehouse near me and I have the possibility to return it with no charges.

If I could use the 6R0...088F it would be great!

The BCM 088F model can manage the automatic lights, but you cannot use it because it is used in conjunction with an external Gateway.
External GWs were discontinued on PQ25s... I do not remember exactly but I think that since October 2012 the external GWs stopped being used in the 6R, the BCM Max with internal GW began to take over the BlueMotion functions.

The BCM Max 7E0 has an internal Gateway, which is exactly the same way as the BCM High 087 P that your 6R currently has installed.
You must install the BCM 7E0.

Thanks for the images, I will do some checks and tonight or tomorrow I post the link to a tutorial for the adaptation of your BCM 7E0.

Oh, OK, I am aware of that BCM diferrences with and without internal gateway, i just didnt know that the 088F was without internal gateway .

thank you for your info

Side note on the interesting VW logic.

The 6R 1.2 TDI Bluemotion has had the 6R0 937 088x BCM and the external gateway until the end (end of model year 2013).
This is the model with the Groenland rims, bluemotion bumpers and roof spoiler These never had the 7H0 BCM.

The 1.6 TDI and 1.2 TSI Bluemotion Technologies (BMT) models did have the 088x BCM with external gateway until model year 2012 where the 1.4 TSI ACT BlueGT was introduced.
The BlueGT came with the 7H0 937 090x BCM and from that moment onwards, the BMT models also used the 7H0 BCM max.

Thank you for your information

Mine is a 1.2 Fsi 70Hp MY2010 and has a 6R0 937 087 P from factory.

just additional information, it has also multifunction steering wheel, the one that has only buttons on the left.
But this has nothing to do with the BCM itself since every BCMs have multifunction steering wheel support, am I correct?

Yes, the MFSW is operated by LIN, the same LIN that goes to the electric windows. All BCMs indeed support this.
The 086 and 085 BCM do not support a second LIN wire to the RLS, anti-theft alarm and panoramic sunroof.

Hello nirvnv

Follow this installation guide.
Download  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cXw67i ... sp=sharing

In your case the wire reaching T17/6 of the light switch connector must also be insulated.
In case you want to have DRLs you have to do a new installation for DRLs under BCM control. (elsa 41/2 or 46/2 - L174, L175)

This is the final BCM coding when you have everything installed:

- BCM 7E0. Adaptation.
- Auto lights wiring.
- DRLs in additional bulbs of the fog lamps.
- LED plate lights.
- RLS, wiring.
- Auto Light switch.

BCM
24B02BBF08A1000001380EB07CEB0ED05F40612F60862041200000030000

RLS
06302D

If there are errors after introducing the BCM coding it is because the installation is not done correctly.

Here my help ends, good luck!

Hello!

Thank you very much for your help on this.
I will study the procedure and make the necessary wiring looms.

Maybe next week i can make this retrofit.

one more question, anyone know the windshield part number with the RLS bracket?

I need to order one but since my Polo has no RLS from factory i can not order it ny VIN number.
