Hi everyone I’ve just signed up to the site. I have a 2013 polo 1.4 and have recently had a problem with the dipped beam on the headlights. Changed bulbs over and checked fuses ok but dipped still not working. All other lights are working full beam etc. Is there a relay for the dipped beam that I can check or am I looking at the stalk switch?
TIA
Derek

Re: Dipped light problem
if the fuses are fine (39 and 59 IIRC) it could be an issue with your light switch or low beam relay.
the low beam relay is number 7 on the picture
the low beam relay is number 7 on the picture
Re: Dipped light problem
Thanks for the help I’ll have a look at the relay first. So when you say switch are you referring to the main light switch or the stalk switch that switches between dipped and main beam?
Thanks
Derek

Re: Dipped light problem
if I understood you correctly, it's the low (dipped) beam that is not working. the low (main) beam is working.
the low beam goes:
power supply to relay (i pointed out to you) to fuses (39 and 59) to headlights
the relay is operated by your light switch, pin 7.
you could rule out the light switch or relay by putting 12V on pin 7 of the light switch directly
(remove light switch, ignition on, connect a wire from the red wire of the light switch to the white wire)

Re: Dipped light problem
Yes that’s correct the low dipped is not working but the main beam is working ok along with sidelights and fog lights.
Thanks I’ll give that a try and report back

Re: Dipped light problem
Update- I removed the lighswitch from the dash and put a short in between pin 7 and the pin opposite (red wire). Dipped lights still not working but could hear and feel the relay energising and deenergising. It appeared to be roughly where you pointed the relay out (number 7) but isn’t the type that’s labelled in that diagram, it’s a 646. Anyways I swapped this one out for another 646 and same thing happened. I’ve attached a photo to show what my relays look like. Does this mean the light switch and relay are ok and the fault lies somewhere else?

Re: Dipped light problem
do you also hear the clicking of the relay when rotating the light switch to the appropriate position?
do you have a multimeter? if so, please measure the voltage on fuses 39 and 59 when the dipped beam is on.

Yes, for your 6R model (2013) there are other diagrams for the arrangement of the relays, however, the relay you swapped is the correct one.DelR wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 9:11 pm Update- I removed the lighswitch from the dash and put a short in between pin 7 and the pin opposite (red wire). Hmm... double check that the connectors for the H7 bulbs you replaced are seated correctly. To discard simple things.
+1
Logic indicates that fuses 39 and 59 could have blown.
