Yes, the cars with ESP don't have the G250. The G250 sensor is there to detect when the pump should be operated.
In cars with ESP, the G85 takes this function. That's why you can code the steering pump module for ESP and without ESP, it's to determine where the car receives the steering input (G250 or G85).

You can indeed retrofit G85 and G250 then becomes obsolete.

Thanks, this seems interesting. G85 sensor is better option and a cheaper one too. and no fiddling on ground + cornering lights :D Sounds promising. I doubt i will get the ESP since my unit is ESP 8.2. Doesn't matter just want to get the car on the road again much fun in winter for driving.

Sorry i meant to say ABS 8.2

If I understood right, the signal from G250 goes directly to Power steering pump ( 3 pin)
When it was summer I lost power steering when I hit a pothole.
I got this error then

Polish_20210118_204527555.jpg (2.94 MiB) Viewed 1197 times
And correct me if im wrong this is the connector for the G250 sensor.
I have cleaned the best and ancored it down, but it seems same issue.

Will redo and check again.

Yes, G250 is a 3-pin connector. Canbus and +15 is a four-pin connector.

Update:
You cant get to the sensor by removing the air filter box, and battery.

Only way you can get to it is from the bottom or, thru the wheel arch housing. Also there is a hose in the way. And I always have an issue with these VW connectors to get the off.

unfortunately i couldnt get really to it, since i didnt have a proper jack or jack stands for safety.
What I did, i sprayed the heck out of it with contact cleaner. Also did the same on power steering pump.

If this issue strikes me again 100% im converting to G85 sensor because its protected from the outside elements.

Ah the little booger again camw on. Didnt even bother scaning the faults.

Is this the correct part number "6Q0959654D" for the G85 sensor?
How will i know if it supports my airbag? I have the leather steering wheel with no commands.
If i decide to add steering wheel commands does the 6Q0959654D support it?

Is there a window on the clock spring so i could find the center of it?
The additional wires that i need to tap in go into what module how can i identify it in the car?

Thanks.

Nou need to check the part number of your stalks. If you have the 6Q0 stalks, take the 6Q0 G85. If you have the 6R0 stalks... you know the drill :)
It doesn't matter concerning MFSW etc, one size fits all.

Found one slip ring that costs next to nothing but its 6R0 959 654
There is no way to use this with current stalks and airbag ?

I have ordered the 6Q0959654D it should arrive tomorrow. Can you help me with the schematics.

Correct me if I am wrong.
I will run additional two wires back from the stalk pins, or directly from the G85 ( T41 connector, pin 2 and 3)

Then under the relay box where the BCM is, Im toing to tap the wire leading from G85 (T41 pin 2) into BCM Connector 73b, pin 18)
After that G85 pin 3, to BCM 73b pin 19.

Also The module J285 is the cluster, I also need the Wires from G85 to branch off, G85 pin 2 to Cluster wire coming from connector T32 pin 29, and G85 pin3 to Cluster T32 pin 28.

I'm tapping into the wires, i'm not cutting them off right ?

B connector is the one on the left side (closer to the clutch pedal)

Any tips of better access of the B connector ? without pulling the dash
Do I need to run any more wires to the light switch to get the cornering lights or as you said it is done by BCM

Should i turn it max to one side (till i feel resistance) and counter turn 1.5 revolutions until the jack lines up with part number sticker?

I count three turns, when i go 1.5 turns my connector is opposite of part number sticket aka sticker 12 o'clock, and jack 6 o'clock
