Some Steering Wheel Buttons Not Working

Post by MattyGdude01 »

I recently bought a 2015 Polo SE. The car has the standard MFSW with no cruise control buttons but I have noticed that some of the buttons don’t work. Specifically the back button on the left that you would press to go back a song or radio station as well as both silver menu buttons and the “ok” button on the right hand side of the wheel. All other buttons work perfectly as does the horn. All of the buttons also light up ok when the headlights are turned on. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Here’s a photo of the wheel for reference.

Have you had any joy in finding the issue? Faulty switches perhaps? outputs can be tested with diagnostic.

It's not uncommon for these buttons to fail from time to time, unfortunately. Replacing is the easy way out. You can take them apart for a cleaning but they are so fragile, you usually break the clips that hold the buttons anyway.

I've got some issues with the cruise buttons side, have checked actual outputs and they are fine, just no cruise light being illuminated and no horn working.

This is not a retrofit, all as is from factory. Even the horn works on an of output test.

There might be an electrical break between the steering wheel and the BCM (Clockspring / wiring / button modules)

In that case it would be all or nothing since the MFSW receives a plus, a minus and a data signal. If one or more of these would break, then the MFSW will stop functioning at all, including the backlight.
