2017 6C 1.2 TSI rear bumper change

Post by the_whiteside »

Hey everyone, I'm looking to change my rear bumper. I've been looking around for months without luck of finding what I'm looking for, so any help at all is appreciated!

Long and short is I want to change the bumper to have a dual exhaust system. With one outlet on either side.

As a backup I was considering dual on the left and I'm aware that the GTi version bumper could allow for dual outlets on the left, though I've found it hard to source with being in Northern Ireland.

The attached picture is what I'm loosely aiming for!

Thanks in advance!

The image you posted is of a 6c gti bumper that's been modified to accept a custom twin exhaust system(or a standard one tip exhaust with a dud tip on the other side).

The standard 6c gti bumper is most likely a straight swap for you and you can find dual exhaust tips that fit over the standard single tip to give it the oem look.

You can do the custom work for that twin exhaust later if you still feel like you want it.

Hey, cheers mate I wasn't sure if the one pictured was a gti or not, the valance trim I thought was the same but I wasn't sure because of the size of the exhaust tips.

I'll get looking for a gti style bumper and see what it's like.

Any idea about the modifications or methods for doing them?

I don't know how the person modified it's exhaust and/or bumper to look like that. The OEM 6C and 6R gti bumper have a removable flap that covers the tow ring. Maybe they just took that out and somehow fit a fake exhaust tip on the tow ring? I have no idea tbh, I'm just guessing.

I recommend going for a used OE bumper. The fitment will be perfect and the quality will be top notch. The price is almost identical, especially if you can find one with the reflectors and diffuser installed.

The rear diffuser on the white Polo GTI in the picture posted isn’t the standard VW Polo GTI diffuser; it’s got three vertical fins between the two exhaust tailpipes, whereas the genuine 6c GTI rear diffuser only has two to the right of the left exit twin tailpipes as per the picture below. So if the rear bumper on the white car is a genuine VW OEM item, the owner has fitted a replacement aftermarket diffuser, rather than modifying the original genuine GTI rear diffuser to accommodate the wide spaced dual exhaust tailpipes.

The diffuser and the bumper are both original. The fins are a cool addon you can buy for like 150 euros. It bolts onto the original diffuser.

Apologies, my mistake. Not something I’d want on my car as I prefer the OEM look, but then we’re all individuals with different likes and dislikes, which is a good thing 🙂.

I could only find one that looks like R32 golf. With two center ones.

I've seen those installed on cars. They look out of place imo. Something about the way the diffuser looks that doesn't fit with the overall esthetic of the car.

I've only been able to find dual centre ones myself which is why I thought on here would be able to help! So far so good!

I'm not really interested in additional fins/defusers at the moment, focusing on getting a bumper thats a good fit for the look I'm after.

Has anyone any advice on where to find the GTi styled one? With the gray trim round the edge like in @srgtd 's picture? I know there are registered dealers and ways to buy from VW themselves but I've come up blank so far on that front!

Hi all, can someone help confirm if this bumper will fit? Both eBay and the seller say it won't, but it lists 6r and 6c as models that it fits on? My reg is wnz 7711 and it's a 2017 polo 1.2 tsi blue motion match petrol

Thanks in advance!

should fit with no problem. Idk if the exhaust will line up. My 1.2tdi 6r didn't and had to make some big modifications to it.
