I write this after 6 years of ownership (2015 Polo 6C), and the bulb's been out for the longest time, but does anyone know how to check the fuse and/or bulb for the light in the storage compartment just ahead of the front cup holders?
I'd swear it used to light up, as did the ring around the cigarette lighter, but not any more.

Re: Front Cup Holder Light Burnt Out?
the bulb is attached to the lighter thingy. From what i know there is a special tool to remove it and change the bulb. I may be wrong, since I only googled it once a long time ago.

Re: Front Cup Holder Light Burnt Out?
Mine failed at around 2.5 years old. Although the car was under warranty at the time, bulbs are considered to be a wear and tear item so aren’t covered under the warranty.
I looked into getting the tool to remove the 12v socket so I could replace it myself, but with the cost of the tool around £39 plus shipping costs, I wasn’t prepared to spend that much on something I’d probably only use once, so I never bothered replacing the bulb.

Would something like this do in place of the special tool?

I'd doubt it very much, the proper tool looks like it jacks the power socket up and out.SimonPoole wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 7:12 pm Would something like this do in place of the special tool?

True, but it's only pushed into plastic. The sink plug, or similar, just gives you something to pull on. The inner part of the proper tool looks like it expands to grip on the inside of the cigar lighter socket whilst the outer sits on the console. If the rubber grips the inside the socket in the same way it might be possible to pull it out.RUM4MO wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 11:46 pmI'd doubt it very much, the proper tool looks like it jacks the power socket up and out.SimonPoole wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 7:12 pm Would something like this do in place of the special tool?

Apparently the sink plug blocker works to remove spark plug tubes on Porsche 996 engines, so who know what other uses it could have

Removing the lighter/12v socket is quite tricky because there are internal tabs which need to be depressed before the socket can be pulled out. Hence the expensive special tool. See the attached video.
