The fact that you said that the hydraulic fluid had bits in it means that the seals are hard and bits are being ripped of them. I replace the brake fluid every 2 years after the car is 3 years old, which is the point for the first fluid change, and the fluid that I remove is as clean as the new fluid I add into the system.

Years ago many of us left the brake fluid in the system for too long but it was easy to see when you had flushed out the old fluid because it looked darker than the new fluid!
Could be, so far so good. It easy to rebuid the caliper ~15 Eur per side with new pistons.

Also was told by my vw friend that if disc is worn and pad low the caliper piston can come out a bit far and cause this problem. Should of asked him if brembo was the oem make for vw bits, will do when I see him if I need replace them bolts. At a glance my red caliper look like brembo.
Do you lock thread the guide pins?
Else i prob put oem pads on, as i can get the pads cheeper.

P.s will hassle my vw friend see if that is correct. But big thank you :)
Hi, did you ever get the correct torque value for the calliper carrier to hub mounting bolts from your VW friend?

If so what was it, thanks.

After seeing me friend at VW they gave me a print out, the caliper bolts get changed on removal, and torque to 35nm the caliper bracket to wheel is 30nm +30 deg and nothing saying about changing them bolts.

No:-7 Caliper Bracket
No:-9 Caliper bolts

What I need is a tool to do the +30deg, one I have seems crap, any ideas?

P.s sorry on slow reply

That 30Nm +30 degrees is what I found in the official VW workshop manual as well, it just seems a very low torque value, but if the existing bolts come out easily then it must be okay.
I discovered "no need to replace bolts" as well, which sounds weird when these bolts are getting the initial torque then an angular measurement - but as I said that torque is quite low for that size of bolt, so maybe little or no weakening of these bolts occurs. I'd still replace these bolts if the heads look a bit nasty as if they look nasty now, they might give trouble taking off next time, I never like to leave any traps for future owners, maybe me being stupid.

Getting the 30 degrees bit correct, I'd mark the "zero degrees" position and guestimate where 30 degrees is - and mark it, 90 degrees is easy, so half that and just tighten up to just before that, or if you are really good at that sort of thing, mark out the 30 and 60 degree points.

Well after more inspection my break pads rear are just under half a pad, disc a bit of scoreing but no lip. So my service place was trying a sly one. So going wait till later in the year now. The handbreak needed a ajustment too seems the same as my old golf, i also ordered 2 springs for the calipers to help return as is common to stick and wine on reversing also may be why I get that bit of sticking when in traffic and I'm quick on the peddle. But again ajustment should of been done in the service. That as it's not VW but halfords, I got a 3 year service plan with them when I got the car free of the dealer, Yet they dont do half the crap. Dont even change the plugs, good thing I check there work, what they do do and it gives me a stamp. VW do a good service plan now too with extended warranty and break down.

Hi all, I know this is a old post, but well relevant to this topic.

What I am after is a VW OEM code for some springs that go on the rear Caliper, I Installed then on my old Golf 2004 GTI and I am looking do the same on the polo, it helps with the hand break return, by default there not a part number for the golf or polo. but is part of another I just cant remember witch. so hoping someone on here will know what I mean and after.

Twice I've added them to Polos, and in each case I found that the MK1 VW Sharan ones were the best fit and tension in terms of adding in just enough extra "return" force on the hand brake lever. Unfortunately check the number or its latest iteration as I'm away from home and have not found my memory stick in my luggage.

I fitted these springs a year or two back. Bought mine on eBay. Here’s the link
