Cooling System

Post by Nathan I Think »

Hi all im new to the forums and recently bought a 1.9tdi 6kv5 polo. The estate one. quite impressed for 500 buy has a few issues. First of all is the cooling system. I have bled the system to get all the old coolant out just looked like rusty water, i thought this was the cause of the cold heating issue. the issue is still there does anyone have any tips for bleeding the system. i have flushed everything out inc the heater matrix. the second issue is the driver side electric window doesnt work. i know the switch works but nothing happens. Any help would be lovely

Cheers NAthan

Welcome Nathan

Coolant can sometimes look like rusty water depending on what additive is used

The system is generally self bleeding. But you can force it by taking the expansion cap off, and squeezing the big rad hoses whilst the engine is running. You may need a new thermostat if you havent got any heating.

Is the engine getting up to temperature?

Does the heater ever get remotely warm?

Ok so it could be one of too things

Its either -

Heater matrix is blocked

The thermostat valve on the heater matrix is broken

How much resistance is there on the hot/cold dial inside the car?

It would be worth checking the lever at the other end of the cable to make sure its actually opening and closing the valve

It depends. Heat can transfer both ways remember even if the water isnt flowing that greatly.

Is your cabin air filter clean?
