Exhaust repair / replace
Exhaust repair / replace
Hi all, the bracket on the middle section of my exhaust has failed and the exhaust is rattling around. The exhaust is ready to be replaced so I'm after some options, not looking for the best exhaust going as I'm going to get a new car soon. Any ideas on what to replace mine with? I'm after the whole exhaust.
Any help much appreciated

Re: Exhaust repair / replace
Or maybe I weld the bracket back to the exhaust - anyone done this before?

I welded mine about 7 years ago in the same place and it's still fine! If you do it, get the exhaust up in the right position with an axel stand before you weld it. It'll be sagging a bit in the position it sits now.

What did you use to clean up the metal under there? Mines rusted quite badly.6n2stan wrote:I welded mine about 7 years ago in the same place and it's still fine! Wire brush on an angle grinder
Mine isn't welded on either - the welds role ages ago. It's held on by two crossed jubilee clips

That's not a bad shout - did you just hook the jubilee round the bit which the rubber bush is on or thread it through the rubber?alexperkins wrote:Wire brush on an angle grinder

Re: Exhaust repair / replace
It goes around the exhaust pipe and tightens down hard holding the bracket in place if that makes sense
Re: Exhaust repair / replace
I can't picture how it is - my bracket is just a straight piece of metal hanging down from the rubber, has something broke off it?alexperkins wrote:It goes around the exhaust pipe and tightens down hard holding the bracket in place if that makes sense

Re: Exhaust repair / replace
Originally it's a L shape I think with a section welded onto the exhaust - you get me?
If you are able to cross the jubilee clips over diagonally it should hold
Alternatively through the rubber bush could work but it might make it a bit tight and rattle

How do you upload pics? My car is on axle stands as we speak so I could get a pic
I wire wheeled mine as Alex says to clean it up before welding.
