Has anyone successfully rejected their GTI? If so, were you asked to pay 45p for every mile you’ve driven? VWFS are clearly crooks!

I’m going through the process.. waiting to hear back from VWFS..

How long had you had the car before you did your rejection and what was your mileage allowance when you took the agreement out..

Surely you should only be paying the amount that is charged in an excess mileage situation with VWFS PCPs (about 9p a mile?).

I bought the car in October and requested rejection in March. My mileage allowance is 12,000.

That’s what I thought, but they said they use the ‘government mileage rate’ which is used for business users, and includes fuel, MOT, VED, servicing and maintenance. I’ve gone back and said 45p is completely unfair.

If that's their basis then it is comlletely unfair - you've used your own fuel, MOT isn't due for 3 years and VED was in the initial purchase price. By rights, I think you'll get pro rata refund on the VED when you are no longer the keeper. You should be paying excess mikeage plus a pro-rata contribution to service cost e.g if you've done 5000 miles in 6 months:-

I'd expect to pay 5000 x excess mileage cost (lets say it's 9p a mile) plus half the cost of the firsf service (going rate is £185).

So that would be 5000 x 9p (£450) plus £92.50 for the service =.£542.50.

On their terms for same example it's 5000x 45p = £2250.

I'm sure that wouldn't stand up in court to charge you 45p a mile.

Are you expecting to get your PCP payments back when the car is rejected? If not, they shouldn't be charging you a penny.

How many miles have you actually done since October?

Are you clear whether this is a proper rejection they're willing to accept as such and not a goodwill buy back scheme?

The email says:

“In recognition of the fact a fault has been experienced with your vehicle which remains unresolved, we are able to assist with the early return of your vehicle, via a Voluntary Termination”

I’ve done 10,000 miles now but only because I had to drive a lot during November and December.

I’m more than happy to pay the excess mileage charge in my agreement.

They’ve taken the mileage charge away from the payments I’ve made so far since October, so really they want about £2,100.

^ As I thought, it's not an accepted rejection. They're offering you terms to get out and it's up to you whether to accept them.

45p a mile is a joke on their part, fuel costs should not be in their consideration, nor should MOT costs or VED. Service costs should be out of contention too if you have a service pack and are sbout to use it to pay for the first service.

If you want to get off any lighter than an additional £2100, you'd need to negotiate (if they're willing) or seek legal advice to force a rejection.

If you're happy with the car in all respects except the mooing then it might be more cost effective to keep the car and find a solution with non-OEM pads or disks or some kind of harmonic damping.

It is indeed a joke. I've referred it to the Financial Ombudsman so will have to ride this one out I think.

I love the car but VW should be finding a solution and I don't have much hope!

Does anyone else's GTI make the sound going forward too? Mine has in the past 2-3 months started making it when I slowly brake at traffic lights, coming to a stop or moving off very slowly...

Never had the noise moving forward on either of our GTIs.
It'll be hard to force a rejection as you've had the car well.over 6 months, and in the grand scheme of things, the car's fully operational and safe to operate, albeit with an unpleasant noise while reversing.

The dealership are making you a poor offer to get out.

As it's not a rejection acceptance on their part, I'd assume it's a "take it or leave it" offer designed to clawback enough equity in the car to make it profitable to resell and they're applying very simple mileage terms that account for costings that shouldn't be under your consideration to justify their offer.

Unless the ombudsman supports your rejection claim as fair and do what they can to push your dealer or VWFS to accept the rejection, you're left negotiating buy back terms with the dealer.

I honestly don't think you'll get support from the ombudsman for rejection as it it's not safety related or causing the car to break down constantly.

Yeah the noise is happening in forwards now too, it'll be interesting to see if anyone else gets that issue.

I put my formal request to reject in on the 3 March and I bought the car on 14 October so that's 5 months and within the final right to reject phase. I'm happy for them to make a deduction (which under the CRA of 2015 they can if it's within 6 months) but I don't think 45p is fair which is what I'm taking to the ombudsman.

Well that sounds a bit more promising if you caught the 6 months unofficial deadline. Fair would be to charge you excess mileage at the normal PCP excess mileage terms, nothing more than that - if it goes through as a an ombudsman supported rejection.

If you love the car apart from this noise then wouldn’t it be alot easier and cheaper to try to resolve the issue yourself?

Perhaps try a VW/VAG specialist, it would cost you but they usually know more than the main dealers about fixes and gremlins.

I thought I'd check in and see what's new on the forum. I successfully rejected my GTI in September and The Financial Ombudsman ruled that I should be only be charged excess mileage on my agreement which was something like 10p a mile. I ended up walking away with my deposit back. I've put an order in for a BMW 128ti so waiting for that now. The whole process from complaining to VW to getting the car taken away took around 9 months. I only did it as I was put off by VW's lack of care on a brand new car.

Hi All,
After much back and forth with VW UK they have a fix for the Polo GTi Brake Noise when reversing.
VW UK have advised communication for a fix has been sent to all UK dealerships.
The fix is to install damper weights on the brake caliper, I have been sent the link below from my dealership when i asked for more information on the fix:
https://www.hella.com/techworld/us/ti/D ... per-10860/
The parts are on back order, i am hoping to get mine to the dealership later this month!
