New 2018 Polo GTI faults
New 2018 Polo GTI faults
Just wandering if anyone else has had problems with their GTI’s?
Received my Polo GTI last June after waiting 5 months for it to be built. Within the first week it was back in the garage as it was making a god awful creaking sound, after 5 days they figured out the front shock absorbers weren’t aligned properly. It’s been in the garage for a safety recall on the seatbelts. It’s been in for a faulty dashboard that was rattling so the dashboard pads had to be changed and it’s currently in the dealership where it’s been since 1st feb as my electric folding wing mirrors and electric windows stopped working. A door control
Panel unit was fixed and I was told my car was ready to be picked up. Went to pick it up and my wingmirrors still didn’t work. So it’s been in the dealership garage since 1sf feb and I’ve been told I won’t get it until end of March as the part that is broken isn’t readily available and will only be available then.
Anyone else had faults with their GTI’s or has mine just been poorly built?

No manufacturing defects with mine. If yours was under 6 months old, I think you'd have a slam-dunk rejection case.
Re: New 2018 Polo GTI faults
Oddly the problems started literally a week after the 6 month period at the start of January. I’m in a mass complaint with Volkswagen at the moment they’ve had my car in the dealership garage for well over a month now and I’m still paying for it. Hoping to reject the finance as it’s had 4 major faults in less than a yearmonkeyhanger wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:29 pm No manufacturing defects with mine. I would not be happy with the issues you are having either, in 2.5 years of owning my 2016 Leon I have had 1 minor issue (screen between the dials had a failed backlight), when it was a new model back in 2013 the forums are packed with people complaining of lots of issues that many people were having.
The AW Polo is a new model and even now with the extensive testing that is done before a new model is released there are always going to be issues for the first 6-12 months. Stuff that didn't show up wen testing, issues with production lines (robots programing needing fettling, training of people etc) also component manufacturers will have the same issues and tweaks needed to the newly designed components they are supplying, sometimes this means people will see the same few issues with lots of cars or sometimes a lot of cars will be fine and plain bad luck means 1 or 2 cars will get lumbered with multiple issues.
Hope VW sort your problems quickly and to your satisfaction, as I know there is nothing worse than repeated issues with a new car to put you off it.

Re: New 2018 Polo GTI faults
I just finished a 740 Mile/1200km trip on the GTI and i noticed a creaking sound too.
More pronounced going over very bumpy road at slow speeds. It sounds like it is under the drivers side dashboard.

same here....
mine has been in to have this rectified and it got identified as the LED module (dashboard) which in the end was fully replaced.
then issue started again around a day later...
i end up just turning the music up...

When a car is just an evolution of a previous model, I wouldn't expect any of this.Griff74 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:47 am I would not be happy with the issues you are having either, in 2.5 years of owning my 2016 Leon I have had 1 minor issue (screen between the dials had a failed backlight), when it was a new model back in 2013 the forums are packed with people complaining of lots of issues that many people were having.

But the current Polo is completely new model, it sits on the new MQB AO platform, it has more in common with the current Golf, Leon, Octavia etc than the old Polo.Andy Beats wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 1:29 pm When a car is just an evolution of a previous model, I wouldn't expect any of this.

Re: New 2018 Polo GTI faults
So there are cars in the VW range it has things in common with, so it's pretty much tried and tested stuff.
It's not like when the Ford Escort suddenly went from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive (example).
Sorry, I don't see any excuses for VW to build a shoddy product here.
My Polo is quiet enough over smooth roads, it doesn't take much for buzzes and rattle to start over rougher roads.
I suppose the difference is I don't expect limousine levels of build quality and quietness in a small and relatively cheap car.
Same as I wouldn't expect an A1 to be as solid or quiet as an A8.

Re: New 2018 Polo GTI faults
No significant faults on mine, the handbrake operation was a bit graunchy when applying it and they changed the handbrake cable out under warranty.
I do have a couple of irritating trim buzzing and clicking issues that come and go which the dealer is taking a look at for me. The loan Polo I have has a trim issue to in a different place. I got the impression from a VW tech that I was speaking to that that trim noise issues are not all that uncommon on the Polo.

Very happy with the quiteness if the Polo.Andy Beats wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 4:11 pmSo there are cars in the VW range it has things in common with, so it's pretty much tried and tested stuff.

Feels like a more expensive car.
Even my Golf 6 had interior noise and My dads 2014 Audi A4.

I will also be troubleshooting on what the noise could be.

The days of small cars being noisy and tinny are gone.
