I get people saying, your jetta / passat is in good condition for an "old" car!

or the girls.." its old and square...is it slow"

let me run you over ya stupid bint and we can see!!

I can see where people think its a jetta as theres the 2 door jetta abroad but where the hell does passat come into things?

atleast it can keep up with most normal cars so they get a shock when they look down at it then can't shake it off their ass.

She thinks it's a four wheel drive, I'm not going to try and explain otherwise.

sh*t this is long! edit: ok well not that long
font size un-reduced as it merely felt much bigger than it was (ooer)

oh easy ... new mini is as much a girly car as the new beetle is ... why they couldn't have put all the design talent and expertise into making an entirely new and innovative small motor is anyones guess (they kept that joke of a bottom-hinged boot, thats one black mark for starters, as unique as such a thing is these days). Instead theyve got a pretender to a true classic with a definate girly spin compared to something that was about as universal as the beetle in original form.

You do have the Cooper S, however, to balance things out, which (if you ignore the fact it's a BMW-derived 1600cc and therefore cheating in the displacement arena) is an idea along the same lines as the G40 and returns it some cred.

Badboy, dont worry about that loser, there's always a dick in every workplace who thinks they're the shiznit and knows nothing. I have been that dick before, now i have to work with worse ones... (not always, but definately when doing exchanges its cause for a chronically bitten lip). Unless his Cavalier is a very well-kept GSi (and therefore actually a faintly derisable car, rather than a heavy, ageing shed) he can button it. Obviously not a man conversant with what the weight of five doors and a large boot can do to the otherwise considerable grunt of a 1.8... a 2.0T is the benchmark performance motor for that car, and it only really adds worthwhile zing if you put it in an astra, or better yet a lotus corsa / decently modified nova (and god knows theres few enough of them!)

simply put, anyone who can blather on in a derogatory manner directly to someone about their own car for so long repeatedly, when its actually bugger all of their business, needs to get their own life sorted as it must be so sad and boring..

metz, as far as i can see, the "passat" thing comes from the front end, and people who are too short sighted to tell how long your saloon actually is. I always thought my squareback looked like a passat estate that got shrunk in the wash, certainly sharing more looks-wise with one of them than with a golf!
(plus, the passat used to be a whole lot smaller than it is now - just like the golf and polo themselves have slowly grown)
"its old and square, is it slow?" lol pass them on when you're done educating them in the many ways 100hp per tonne can be good for you, and i'll give them a ride in my dad's ancient Volvo 240 estate ... it looks like a tank, but he bought one with a sound and torquey engine so that he could haul a mahoosive amount of stuff (the enormous boot, back seats and roof-rack) AND a caravan full of wood over Shap. Well-tuned 2100cc, RWD, give it full right boot and a bit of sidestep clutch abuse and it takes off like a scalded whippet despite the G-reg plate.
(ok, ok its never going to chase a porsche or probably even a GT, but it gets far more traction off the line than most modern FWD cars, and it LOOKS like it wouldnt frighten a milk float)

Ditto the smart car ... 84hp in somethign that weighs about 750kg, that's going to be quite tasty off the line (that's RWD as well, isnt it?). Never mind that the early ones only had about 40 horse and would be a fair match for a 1.0 squareback... all thats really restricting you now is the gearbox (and the limiter, if you havent had it bypassed).
And i'd also say it's not that girly - it has a surprisingly unisex look to it, although it's short there's some faint hint of macho posture about it. I'm pretty sure the bumblebee-coloured one that my boss drives couldnt be called girly - a special import with the diesel (still 700cc!) engine, usually found parked in crazy 45 degree sloped offroad spots right on the edge of the car park. He lives on a commune farm thing and probably drives across the fields in it...

omicron --- go on then... i dare not guess... it is RWD or FWD? Because it sure looks like a 4x4

(PS nice indy statue, where the hell did you get that?)

It's RWD, it is vaguely spottable in that picture if you're a true anorak (no driveshafts). I'll forgive anyone who thinks it's 4wd though, unless they happen to be watching how far up s**t creek I end up if I try to off-road it.

To protect the guilty, I'm not saying where Indiana came from, we'll just say "beer trophy" and leave it at that

Metz - I've got to admit, I thought that was a Jetta when I first saw it.

boadboypolo - ask him if an aerial atom is a girls car 8)

(that, and the sportiest girl i ever knew had one ... a D-reg ex-rally time trials job which went faster than any 1200cc 4-speed had any right to)

Er, girls car?

Try the new Mini, Try the 106, the 206, the Kia Picanto, the Hyundai Getz, the Rover 100, the Saxo, the Corsa (Ok, not completely girly)...

All small cars are girly, but are used by both for a reason.

Just tell people to stfu.

Oh and Badboy, just quote this to him and he should shut up: "Chavalier". Just say that one word everytime he slags off your Polo.

I dont think Polo's are girls cars...

I see a lot of male drivers behind the wheel of a Polo and most of them are very nicely modded.

I think it is a stereotype like when you see a Toyota Yaris, you think of a granny driver however i know of two very nicely modified Yaris's.

Its all stereotypical

I get pee'd off because every time I take mine to a show it takes me 5 minutes to explain yes it is my car despite the fact it has my bloody name on the number plate lol.
But seriously people always think its a bloke car and i think the 9n is the girliest of the lot.

yeah the classic cars that have been stereo-typed include

mazda mx5 - hair-dressers car
citroen saxo - barryboy car
Rover 600 - old grandad's car (most likely seen choked up on a sunday afternoon going 25 in a 60)

As for the polo its just universal :D

Should we really care what people think!?

I have seen 5 Golf R32 recently, 4 of which were driven by women. Does this mean its a girls car?

Corsa, Fiesta, Clio, 206, Fabia, Polo - Which is the most masculine? answer: who gives a f**k!!

Polo, old persons car? girly? I bought mine because i saw the potential in the 9n, im pleased most people dont rate it, because at the end of the day, when ive done all my alterations to styling and engine, ill have a car which is stylish and can p*** on most cars on the road.

Ive also owed a 6n2 gti, only ever seen one other man driving one.

Sorry for the rant, but it annoys me that the world feels it neccessary to put everything in boxes!
