Hello from a newbie.

Hello everyone hope I'm posting in the correct place. Thought I would say hello, I have just bought a Polo on an H plate. Am I correct in thinking this is the mk11 shape?. Got the car as a winter/sometimes summer run around as I have just stored my other car away for the winter.

It has covered just over 52,000 miles and runs like a dream for the age etc. Everything is still looking new and reasonable fresh. Being a bit of a modding freak, just for abit of fun I am thinking of fitting a few bit's to the car to make it look different. Can you get things like Momo steering wheel bosses and clear/smoked indicators etc for this year of Polo? If yes where would be the best places to look and purchase.

yep its mk 2

wa type of polo is is sqaure back or coupe?

i got an H reg square back and its running smoothly with 97000 on clock

i just ordered some clear indicators front and side

the side's came today waiting on the front and the chrome bulbs they should set the car off a treat, puttin them on weekend so if ya wanna see it let us know

the orange 1s i think look tacky and you can see them through the glass

i had them off

Well, H reg was the changeover year so it could be a mk2 or a mk3. If it's like the one in my signiture picture then it's a mk2

Either way, welcome to the forums

As for modding bits, look on eBay, the front indicators are the same as mk1/2 golfs, ditto the steering boss (although you'll need to see whether yours has large or small splines, as some of the later mk2's were fitted with an adaptor sleeve with small splines on the steering column, in which case you need a late mk2 golf boss. Either way they're all easy to get your hands on

i think mine would be mark 2 coz i got the twin round head lamps

mk3 have the square lamps

GroovyCarrot i've had a new back box Â£30 its half of the car i was gob smacked when the dude handed it to me.

i was looking at stuff on ebay but body-kit came with them chrome bulbs cost a lil bit more but looks better

i wouldnt getting alloys for mine in time

i left out mind lol

i've seen a lovely set of steel wheels with VW centre cap Â£40
size 5.5Jx13hz my current wheel size are 155.70.R13's would that fit da polo?

Thanks for the welcome and kind comments guy's. Had a quick look at the website some nice kit's on there. Think mine is a Mk 11 as its the same shape in your sig. It's the square back one almost looks like a miniature estate car.

Third day I have driven it today and it's good to say it still feel's nice for the age of car. Also love the fact that the fuel guage has only just moved lower today. Cheap motoring is what I like for the next 6 month's or so. Just until the summer comes around again, then I will think about getting the other car out. Sunny days and shows only from now on.

On the subject of shows and meet's do you guys and girls do many around the southampton/southern area. Would be nice to have a browse around the other Polo's..........cheers Leigh.

yep you chose a bad plate year to get a decision on...

I've got an H mk3 and keep walking past h plater mk2s through the car park to the shops

good to hear you like the drive, its maybe a bit rough and ready but it's got a nice "feel" to it, like... hard to express but maybe its like riding a well built hardtail bicycle, though you feel the bumps a bit more its still enjoyable

52k miles is not bad at all, i got mine more than 2 years ago and thought 54k was a pretty good figure at the time! its just getting going really, so long as it's been looked after you could easily double that figure if not triple (so long as the parts are - and the fuel is - still available by then)

its nuts how VWbrought out the mk2 and mk3 on same plate.

when all 4 lamps are on they look mean

i dont see many twin lamps sayin that now i'll see loads tomo LOL

you may get attached to it and wont wanna sell it.

btw welcome to the forum mate

there should be a south east meet in dartford(kent) sometime after xmas, ie january, and if ur in southampton, then its not a massive distance (i've just driven down that way so know roughly how far it would be)
keep an eye on meetings and events in the near future!!!

Hiya DanDiesel thanks for the tip on the meet gotta mate in Bromley so not to far from Dartford. The Polo comes from that neck of the woods as well, got it through my Bromley friend he buys and sells and he took this in p/x. So let me have it for for just 300 quid the same price he gave in p/x value.

As for the other car it's abit of a total love affair so not sure if the Polo could wrench me away for ever. Had it for 5 years and spent to much on it to give it up. See if you can guess what it is, there's a clue in my sign-on name. Cant give any prizes for correct guess, but who ever guesses correct first can feel good in the knowledge they are a total car genius

Now you can probably guess why I chose a car like the Polo, good enough for a second car, still reliable enough to not let me down and it don't drink like a fish. Only get 12 mpg from the Rx and that's around town start booting it and it goes down to 8 mpg

Same reason I have a Polo - less than 10 mpg if I drive my other cars hard - helps me save money on fuel in the winter so I can buy lots of Optimax in the summer!!!!

yeah....... mk3 1-litre, you can't make it do less than 30mpg unless you drive everywhere in 3rd near the limiter, the injectors are that conservative

mad how they brought them both out on a H-plate

well they've gotta change the models over some time geeza

suppose they could engineer it so all of the remaining mk2 stock were pre-registered on a G, and all the first mk3s pushed on the first day of H, but think they were too lazy / concerned about the overall effect on sales of the clearance stock for that
