Funny passenger window..

Post by hot_polo »

i have started to have this problem on my polo, for some reason the passenger side window does not go down when the button is pressed on thr drivers side :?, you have to hold it down and it responds 10 seconds later...
i cant quite figure it out :? as it works perfectly fine when the button is pressed on the passengers side :x

Could be a dodgy switch or a loose wire? On the drivers side switch area I mean

I'd agree, sounds like hte switch on the driver's side panel is playing up. They're not expensive to buy (you can ask the guys at VAGParts to price you one up) but the costs come if you take it to the dealership to have it sorted, as replacing the switch involves taking the door trim off in order to gain access and prise the old switch out before replacing it with a new one :?

To be sure it is the switch playing up, once the door trim is removed, swap the plugs over so that the driver's and passenger's windows are reversed, then see if the problem occurs on what will now be the driver's side window

Incidentally, if you find that it is definitely the electric window switch at fault, the part number for a replacement is 6x0 959 855b

Just wanted to add, it is possible to remove the switch unit without removing the door card, it just prises up at one end with a flat tool, there should be enough slack for you to try swapping over the wires to test if bad switch

If it is the switch, just that one bad switch can be replaced, no need to get a whole drivers side switch complete (i.e. drivers window, locks switch etc..) but, if so, then yes, door card needs to come off to make job easier for fitting it
