Hi I have a 1984 Polo Formel E which I love to bits but its giving me a bit of a headache at the moment!!
I had a problem with the points closing over so I had a sparkrite electronic ignition fitted which solved that problem BUT (and you knew it was coming!!) I'm now having problems getting it to start (a very kind neighbour jump started me at 6.30 this morning...
Any ideas please??!!
Sorry for introducing myself with a problem by the way!!
Welcome to the forum dude, i can't help i'm afraid, i have trouble starting my polo too, i have to turn the key and then straight away put my foot on the gas and it starts up easy. hopefully someone will be able to give you a proper answer
When you turn the key, the engine trys to start but doesn't quite catch. A neighbour recommended replaceing my rotor arm which is pitted & distributor cap which I got at GSF yesterday and will fit this evening when I finish work. Will let you know if it makes any difference or not.
dizzy is a good place to start i reckon! then i would check leads and plugs to make sure they are all working sufficiently!
i remember a few years ago my dad was working on a formula E for a friend and it had the exact same problem! it wouldn't run right and struggled to start!
this formula E was also fitted with an after market electronic igntion fitted by this persons brother which my dad removed and replaced it with the standard item and all the simptoms had gone! (of course this was after checking leads, plugs etc.)
hope thats of some help, probably what you didn't wanna hear but thought i'd mention it!
