brake warning light - Vag-Com nr Preston ?

Hi,

can anyone help me out with a brakes issue.

My 16v has started showing the ABS warning light - I had this checked and it was code 01276 which I've found out to be the ABS ECU is fecked. VW want £1300 +vat just for the part (well the hydraulic pump and the ecu are 1 unit to them).

I've found a place who can reset the ecu but it means taking it all apart. In the meantime a friend suggested I remove and check all the ABS fuses which I did.

this seems to have caused another issue - basically when I start the car the brake light is now flashing and there is a warning 'ping' alarm for a few seconds. when driving the car the ABS light is still on but eh brake light above it is still flashing..

I don't fancy paying any more to VW as their service is crap here. Can anyone help me out and get it back so it is just the 01276 error lighting up my dash board which I can then get on to sorting out..
