Climatronic Fan Speed Indicator

I have noticed when i have my climate control is on auto the fan speed indicator does not change, just stays on 4 bars, but i can here the fan speed change. My girlfreind has a 2001 polo where as mine is a 2000 model, her display changes when the fan speed increases and decreases when on auto. Just wondered if anyone has come across this before?

Auto is 4 bars, if you adjust it up or down it takes it off auto.

The bars on mine go up or down depending whether im pressing the up arrow or down arrow.
