How do you reset your ECU....help.....

Hi Guys

Having some real problems with my car t the moment, when the engines hot and I go to restart it, it takes an age, eventually fires up but backfires with a load of smoke, seeming like no petrol getting through

I've been told to get rid of this problem to clean the throttle body (spraying in carb cleaner via the air box- cheers loud) but then need to reset my ecu, anyone know how to do this--Im shocking when it comes to mechanical DIY!

Any help would be great, this is begining to be a complete nightmare, and been told by a few it should be a relivly quick fix....but with my skills it could take forever

It's a shame there isn't a definitive answer for this, I had a problem with my car some time back (over-revving). I took it to an independant VW specialist who sorted it for me. We got talking about this and he said the only time resetting the ECU by this method works is when the immobiliser and keys are not paired??? Otherwise it does nothing (as I found out)

Finally got it sorted, it was the lamba (dont know if this is the correct spelling) that had gone. This meant the engine believed it was cold all the time and over fuelling to compensate. The gauge in the car was correct, hence why I was getting about 180 mile to a tank of petrol.

The sensor cost around Â£15 and Â£35 to fit. All in all it should save me a considerable amount of money and get me on my way to 300+ miles to the tank!

Now I have another problem, I've had the clutch cable replaced, it was (and still is) like a race car, bloody heavy. I've been told the only other thing to do is get a replacement clutch (Â£300 odd). Anyone any ideas what else it could be?

wow, the lambda probe part should be around Â£100 I believe - so you got a bargain?!

You may wanna still clean your TB, once you've done it your car should sort itself out after about 100 miles, not need to adjust your ECU, I never did.

A new clutch should not cost you Â£300, i'd expect to pay Â£120-200, with kit supplied

How many lambda sensors are there on a 6n2? And where is the best/cheapest place to get them?
