Fault code: 17927 - VVT Intermittant Malfunction Bank 1
Autodata diagnosis: Camshaft position (CMP) Control B.1; possible causes: Cylinder head oil pressure too low, CMP Actuator Sticking/defective
Help needed to diagnose a bad splutter a low end (up to about 3k rpm). I've changed plugs, new panel air filter (K&N), new cam shaft position sensor, VW have checked Lambda sensor and it's fine, said throttle body needs a clean but not what the problem could be? Getting some oil through the breather pipe (back pressure???). Puzzled as to what it could be and would love to find the fault! I don't fancy paying VW any more money to find something they can't even identify!
Cough splutter it's supposed to be a GTI!! help!

Not had that exact fault but it looks like its down to the variable valve timing operation.
Have you had a timing belt changed? Is it near the time to have it replaced? Any noises from that area?
I'll have a word at work and see if i can dig anything up. Also try a google search on that number, might get lucky.

I't just about due a service and would probably be the toothed belt change. I sometimes hear a bit of a metallic ring if revving and allowing to idle (usually about 2500 rpm) That's not the idler arm on the way out is it?
17927 P1519 Intake Camshaft Contr.,Bank1 Malfunction
According to all code reader specialists?? any ideas what i've not done correct?
Note; there are what appears to be two sensors on the top of the engine. One to the right (cam shaft position sensor) a three pin unit that is screwed to the block. The other is situated on the left and appears to have metal legs holding it in place. It is larger and has a two pin electrical contact? What is this and is it another sensor that I perhaps have overlooked?

Oil level seems fine. It had lost some a while back but since changing the components listed earlier I've had no great loss of oil?Ross Clarke wrote:It sounds like a fault with the variable timing unit not the camshaft sensor.
Is your oil level ok?
I've started thinking along the same lines as you but... where is the VVT control unit housed?
Plus when anyone refers to the bank 1 part of the fault code they say it's the lambda sensor???
I'll have to pressure test to see if it's a piston ring or something but don't think it's that!
