75 quid soundz abit sharp mate,i can do it for around £50 all in
i am a fully qualified a/c / refrigerastion engineer, shouldnt pay anymore than that,£20 for gas £30 labour this would include a pressure test.

righty the most common problem would be if a/c is not working that it is out of refrigerant, this would mean the clutch on compressor is not working because this is held out by the low pressure switch, take it back to where you got it recharged to check the pressure again!!
if the clutch on the compressor is spinning (find the compressor and switch on a/c full fan look at outer part of compressor where belt is attached, outer plate should be spinning) if this is not it is out on low pressure,
ask how much refrigerant was put in when recharged as this also could stop it functioning correctly, too little not good, too much very bad!!!

main places to look for leaks,do a visiual first look for oily patches around all pipework from compressor to condenser(a/c radiator)and into the cockpit, or may be that the shaft seal in compressor has dried and gas has leaked from there as soon as recharged it should seal itself with oil from compressor, or may be a stone has damaged the condenser! just a few pointers
if you take it back ask if they pressure tested the system before they recharged it,if they didnt they should redo it free of charge because they didnt do it correctly 1st time
just looked at mine should take 550 grammes of r134a, all pipework looks accessable ally and rubber pipework start at compressor up to top of rad, bottom of rad to inside of driverside wing to small cylinder round back of engine to under rad water cylinder
hope this helps any problems please reply will try and help,

thanks for your reply shame you live on the other side of the bleedin' country!
I took the car to be pressure tested, no leaks were found after an hour and because the refridgerant was a bit low, and therfore wouldn't work anyway they topped it up that cost 75 quid, however it still wouldn't work. the switch works in the car ( the switch lights up ) the revs increase slightly the engine management thinks the aircon is on but according to the autoelectrician theres no voltage getting to the compresser so presumably theres some sort of problem with the wireing a break or bad contact somewhere.
I was hoping if it was a common fault someone else with a same year polo might have traced a possible cause, clearly by the lack of replies I'm just a bit unlucky. I bought the car in january but didn't realise you can use aircon it to heat up the car quickly as well as cool it down so I didn't know how to test it was working ,especially as I said the aircon switch lights up and appeared to work. thanks again for your reply.

cool, though I don't hold too much hope as I suppose it could be a chaffed wire or something anywhere from behind the dash right through the autoelectrician "quoted" anywhere from 50 quid to a grand cos' it could take 20 mins to 3 or 4 days to find a wiring fault, . fair enough I suppose, or maybe I just don't know any decent sparkys.
cheers again
