Help- cutting out problem

Post by viperphill »

The problem:

On the first outing after its mot i was driving the car for about 2/3hours and it was fine then it lost all power even on WOT, and would kangaroo, since then it just keeps cutting out while ideling. but with each new part the car is ideling for longer period of time.

On the last inspection i unplugged the lambada sensor, which the car was ideling for a good 10 mins longer

Polo will idel from cold for about 10/15mins and then just cut out, afterwards attempted re-starts get it going again but cutting out after a few seconds.

if buy 15mins the car hasnt cut out, i pick the rev's up to about 2k.. the fan kicks in for a min or 2 and then the revs jump up and down franatically while holding the throttle steady before cuttin out again.

Fixed/Replaced parts :

New Heavy duty battery,
New HT leads and Plugs,
New Blue Temp sensor
((Replaced vented oil breather Rocker cover, with mk4 none vented- though the car ran fine for 3hours like this))

firstly, welcome to the forum!

you say you changed the rocker cover for a non vented one, was it with this one that you say it ran for 3 hours, or was it with the old one?

are you still running the hot air feed to the air filter? i know when i took mine off my old 1 litre as i put an induction kit on, it would never run right, something to do with carb freezing. however, putting the hot air feed back on (first off directed it at the induction air filter and then with the standard airbox on) it seemed to no longer have the problem!

this probabaly has nothing to do with what the problem is, i mean, u say the fan comes on meaning the car is running quite hot.

If you could get back to me with some more info, it maybe useful! Hope i've been of some help!

hi mate,...the car ran with the mk4 rocker cover for 3hours,.also at that time it was using the cone filter and no hot air feed. like i said while driving it just lost all power and now just refuses to run.

its not running the hot air feed and id love to put the std box back on but the bolts buggered up when opting for the golf pipework.

yes the fan has been on but thats only after 15mins of ideling and then me reving it up to get it hot.

will try with the hot air feed,..cant do any harm not to i suppose.

also ive just had my altenator fixed,..apparently it wasnt working as it shoudl and needed a few things changed,. i put that back onto the car before after haveing the battery disconnected for the night and the car fired up but only ran for about 5mins this time then cut out,..i got it going again then it cut out too,.... so i sat there for a good 20mins trying to get it going some times it will start straight away others it will just turn over,..and i only gave up because the car seems to be draining the battery with the turning over it just dies.

just a lil update for you,..after driaing the battery bout 20mins ago(last post) ive just gon out and it started straight away. so i was gettin a video on my mobile when i heard a clicking noise

i have traced that all around the engine to the ht lead on cylinder 3/2(passenger side) these are the new plugs that i put on the car but they are of vag type,.wit the metal sleeving around the sparkplug and a bit of rubber inside. from what i can see(and can clearly see) the ht lead is earthing to the cylinder head,..so im guessing the car is only running on 3cylinders due to this ht lead and hence why its cutting out.

help me please :!: :!: i know im getting closer :D
