Im sure you members are fed up with people asking these questions now, but is:-

# Tyre: 195 x 50 x 15
# PCD: 4x100/4x108
# Offset: 38mm

A decent sizE? No problems fitting them?

is it a mk4. They need to be 4x100 instaed of 4x108. The tyre size and offset should be fine though.

yup apart from 4x108 is an Audi fit and the 50 profile will cause problems if you lower it so stick to 40/45 profile.

if i got them 50 instead of 45 how low could i go before it caused problems?

roughly -40/50mm

also depends what size the alloys are.
