Mk2adam's G40 Progress updated 03/12/06

Post by Mk2Adam »

Hi guys, as i recently anounced i've recently bought a G40 which i absolutely love, strange to think that before i got my lil mk2 polo and stumbled accross this site i didn't even know what a G40 was

This is my mk2 which i still have and is now SORN'd but will hopefully be used once i get another yrs NCB and can afford to use both polos...
Image

anyway as i explained before my pc was broke so unable to upload pics but it's now fixed so thought i'd introduce you guys to my new baby...

this was what it looked like when i 1st got it after being driven from wales (cheers petrified  )

i replaced the clutch cable and charger belts to get it all mechanically sound and then gave her a wash, polish and a load of autoglym tar remover on the glue from the trim and on the boot, either side of the number plate...
Image

and a good clean and hoover inside...
Image

swapped my alloys over from my mk2 as they're 13" BBS RA's from a G40, and then fixed the ariel as the thread was messed up so had to replace the whole base, and after a 2nd bout of washing and polishing...
Image

this is basically as it sits now except some little **** decided to kick my wing mirror off the other day which i'm getting a replacement for this week.

Thanks for reading guys and i'll be updating this same thread as DelGT has done in his thread, although mine will be less active and look like a 5 yr old is taking the pics haha

Looking mint 8)
I'm sure it looked better than that first pic when I dropped it off  should have taken the pics of the 'good' side with the arch trim :P

glad the insurance wasn't too drastic. it's not something you really think about too much when you get to 27!

Only problem owning a g40 is that the minute you sell one, you want another.

we'll see :?

haha, nice to finally get around to posting the pics up.

i think the steelies really didn't do the car any favours, the bodywork was all polished and bumpers all freshly treated, minus the drive back from wales

i got the wing mirror fixed yesterday night and i also got a center console, although i havn't fitted this just yet....so cheers again quinny for the parts 8)

i am missing that arch trim, so if you've got one spare then let me know  lol

the ariel was a bit of a pain in the bum really, theres a guide on clubpolo in the article section and it says if you use a hairdryer to soften the glue on the rubber mouldings around the windows then you can get headlining off :) ....i decided it'd be too big a pain to do so i decided to just take the bit down around the rear side window, so litterally enough space for me to reach up and into the bottom of the ariel, it's suprisingly hard to tighten a nut (or even get it on to the threads  ) when you can't actually see what your doing and with only one hand

but i did it in the end, so if you feel confident with it i'd definetly reccomend taking the headlining down properly

cheers robin :D

yeah it was a bit of shock, went from finding a cheap GT for £400 on autotrader and thinking "i know, i'll get that as a project and tidy it up so it's ready for next year", that car was sold when i called up, then i got offered the G40 so i thought "i know, i'll get that as a project and tidy it up so it's ready for next year"...

but i couldn't resist the lore of the G40 and went on the road after about 2 wks of ownership

quick update:
i've installed a center console in there now (pics to follow) and i'm gonna buy my new cd player shortly :D :D

just a little update of the things i've been doing to my G40 lately...

fitted my new blaupunkt Head unit...
Image

...and my hard drive (now neatly fitted in my car) to store 80gb worth of music, good bye cd's...
Image

fitted my center console (cheers quinny) and swapped my chrome gear surround and leather gaitor from my mk2...
Image

and finally i gave it a proper clean this weekend, 1st proper session i've done to the G :( tbh i didn't think to take a pic till i'd just put the autoglym bumper care on just as it got dark and that pic looked okay on my phone screen, looked awful when i uploaded it to my pc  DOH! but atleast you guys can see it shining a bit and with black bumpers :D
