ok fair enough, japanese cars are ridiculously reliable.. seen it first hand with my mums lexus, never a had fault with it in so many years.. touch wood!

but u have got a spanking new car with a bigger engine so it is obviously gonna be better! it would be debateble any civic with same value as the polo gti being any better tho...

Is it an EG model (1992-1995) an EK (1996-2000) or an ES (2001-2005)? From your description of the car as a 1.6 vti I would imagine it will not be an FD model (2006-present) as Honda dropped the 1.6-litre powerplant for the 1.8-litre, claiming it the 1.8 unit is advanced enough to produce more power but also more economical running (ie. higher mpg) than the old 1.6 :)

The EK would have been out at the same time as the Polo. Comparing the two together I would argue that although the Japanese car will have potentially better reliability and handling (the GTi in standard form is a bit woolly), the Polo is better built and will depreciate slower than the Civic. If you have the 160bhp Civic then yes it will be quicker than the Polo. But no xenons... split rims... and no VW badge eh

are you still here? surely there's a hodna forum where you'd feel more comfortable. As for the new civic, did it come with a cloth cap and a thermos flask? Ugliest fcukin thing to come out of japan in a long while.

go away (politely)

hondas claim that the 1.8 engine is as economical as a 1.4 when driven normally but this is hard to achieve....the manufacturers mpg figure is 41 miles to the gallon...but i am only managing 31.8... :?

second point the new civic is better built than the 1999-2001 polo...as a matter of fact it is better built than the current r32/gti...and i should know as my cousin is a vw sales executive...and has his pick of any vw model that he wants...

thirdly my 1.8 is much quicker than the 1999-2001 gti...it can pretty much own most vehicles at the traffic lights...

And last of all, it's a brand new car with a bigger engine so we'd all expect it to be better built and quicker

Exactly. If you read my post, Samuel, I pointed out that the EK generation Civic is directly comparable to the Polo GTi as they were both available as new cars in the same period of time. If you were to compare your 56-plate brand new Civic against a VW GTi model it would of course be the Golf GTi, as they are in the same class. And the Golf would beat the Civic into a cocked hat, IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, I am not picking on your choice of car. Just please refrain from bashing the 6n2 Polo GTi at every opportunity you get, as it makes you look like a fool to be bluntly honest. I am aware you had some bad experiences with your Polo but please, let it go!!

  PMSL!! get back to earth boy.
own most vehicles at the lights, are you having a giraffe??? from all the sites i have checked the 0-60 is around 8.3 - big deal hardly anything to boast about. I have had quick cars over the last few years, s3, r32 to name a few and your car is hardly anything to write home about.

by the way, your big 1.8 is pumping out 138 bhp, i think you will find that it isnt that much quicker than a gti.

i have also travelled in quick cars...and i am not refering to relics such as the previous r32...or some out dated s3...

so i know what i am on about when i say that the civic is fast...
