From whats been posted in this thread I think the garage are taking the p*ss, with a good quality socket and big ish hammer you can have 4 locking wheel nuts off in under 5 mins. It should have been done for free considering the size of the bill. Good locking wheel nuts are £30ish

I would very carefully check the wheels when you pick the car up to make sure that they have not damaged them. Could your parents not have just taken the locking wheel nut key down ?

Well next time I won't be using them again. Here is a cost breakdown:

Labour: Supply and fit Pollen Filter, Timing Belt, Tensioners, Water Pump, Multi-rib Belt, Water Pump, Renew Anti-freeze, headlamp and headlamp bulb, rear brake discs and pads, coolant cap, brake fluid change, locking wheel bolts removal and renew - £361.25 (8.5 hours @ £42.5 an hour + VAT)

Air Con Re-gas - £100

MOT - £50.35

LABOUR/AIR CON/MOT TOTAL - £511.6

Parts:
Pollen Filter - £11.10
2x Rear Discs - £41.40
2x Pads - £19.35
Brake Fluid - £12.50
Passenger Headlamp - £163
Xenon Bulb - £99.03
Timing Belt - £32.99
3 Tensioners - £25.00, £29.14, £24.07
Water Pump - £40.30
Mid-rib Belt - £13
Anti-freeze - £15
Wheel Bolts - £20
Expansion Tank Cap - £5.42
PARTS TOTAL - £551.3

LABOUR/AIR CON/MOT/PARTS TOTAL - £1062.9
VAT - £177.2
GRAND TOTAL - £1240.12

Absolute rip-off! They didn't even put my cold air feed back correctly. My brakes are still crap and I was expecting a miracle. They also said they cleaned the ignitor connector for the passenger Xenon but said it may need replaced if it starts playing up again. As for my interior light, it won't work because of that stupid aftermarket alarm the last owner pointlessly added.

Lesson learned - gonna get some Axle stands, make time to service most things my self/source parts next time and take it up to Peterhead for any remaining work

£99 for a light bulb !!!!! you can buy an aftermarket HID Kit for that ! inc the bulbs lol, Pollen filter rip off there, Also £50 for an MOT, thats a bit steep also mate, An independant garage would have prob done it all for half the price.

I know ppl want a full VW service History, but at the end of the day, if you have a Reputible Garage stamping your book i dont care where it service from, as long it has been done and there is a history !

The brakes will get better Mouse, I had new front discs and pads fitted which took a while to bed in.

They stop pretty good now, at first they were crap.

The MOT seems pretty pricey as well, I paid about £44 for mine at the main dealer.

£90 - £100 is the price we have to pay unfortunately for a genuine OEM Xenon bulbs Ian.

The MoT is the right price, it's just that many testers give discount as they already make enough or want new business.

Yeah one of my bulbs was gone and it was £96 from my local VW stealership. In the end my mate had a spare one just lying around! Result 8)

Gutting though Mouse, VW just like to charge the earth! When i took my car there for my climate not working properly - it wasn't blowing very cold at all. They tested everything, told me there was a faulty sensor and that was the problem. Then they said they bypassed the sensor to get it working but the compressor was loud and there was a blockage. They said that the whole system needed replacing... only £2000 odd for that!

So i got an aircon specialist round, he confirmed it was the sensor, i bought said sensor, guy fitted it, and hey presto it works fine. Total cost for the sensor... £40

Good thing is, they very rarely go so they don't cost us too much during the cars lifetime :D
