A happy(er) GTI owner
Thought I'd post something postive seeing as a lot of posts at the moment are a bit negative.
Fitted new spark plugs and ht leads today and the difference is pretty noticeable. The car is more responsive overall and the nasty juddery idle is all fixed. Feels a lot nicer to drive.
Now I just need to figure out what the funny grindy noise when i accelerate/take my foot off the accelerator is, then i'll be very happy!!

Mine is keeping me happy too. Since the Service my mileage went 33MPG to the second last tank, and 34 to the last, and that's me giving it beans half the time. For normal driving before I was always getting 32.something.
Only trouble today was out on the back roads, my ride is so jolty with my coilovers that my lower strut brace was hitting off the ground at 60

Yup, went all out and bought the proper plugs and leads from the stealers this time too as it was just easier. Luckily my friend is a coach mechanic so he let me go to his work last night so I could pinch his tools to change the plugs!
The grindy noise does sound like what you described, kindof makes the car sound like a taxi! I'm definitely going to be keeping some money aside for gearbox probs!

If cleaning my TB doesn't sort out my juddery ride i may have to invest in some new leads and plugs! Good to see you sorted the problem!
My GTI has been playing nice for a while now. Got MOT tuesday so fingers crossed! But i do know it needs new strut top mounts, damn thing has eaten them since its been lowered

I've had so much trouble with mine, not big things but little ones, seems to have eased off lately thank god but i still need to get my seatbelt attached, i'm with you on saving money for the gearbox, but i'm in a bit of a predicament...i bought the car from some dodgy garage in kent, if it goes i will have to pay ALOT to get it taken to kent from bmouth to get it fixed under warranty and whether they do a proper job who knows..
I need new plugs fitting, will get around to it soon.
Other than that my car is good at the moment too, just had a text off my mechanic mate to say that he has adjusted the clutch and now now more graunching and crunching when putting the car into first/reverse gears. Also he has located the source of a whining sound to a loose bracket for one of the filters and has tightened the whole lot up for me. Great!!
Can't wait to get her back, I'm tooling about in a borrowed Leon 1.8 at the moment
