8 x 15" all round :D

Post by gti_black »

im thinking of getting a new set of wheels, but theyre 8x15  et25. im want 8's on the front as well (nice shiny dish)... however how much rubbing would i experience if lowered around 50-60mm..

i know one guy (not personally) whos done this and managed to fit a set of schmidt modern lines 8x15 et25 on a mk5 gti but not sure of if he had any archwork done. he also used 10mm spacers..

anyone have any experience with using 8's all round. im currently running 7.5x17's (thats right 17s) and dont really experience much scrubbage apart from when using full lock.

your feedback would be great

You would need your arches rolling. Unless your suspension is super hard.

If you stretch some 195s over them it will help.

I would think without people in the back, 50-60mm you'll be fine, but i think you'll be struggling.

I'm about 50-60mm at the back with 8" RM's and i would get scrubbing with someone in the back, but my suspension isnt overly firm to be fair

45's i get some rubbing, but not bad at all. Dont put anyone in the back though. No archwork at the moment, but i am going to get the rears flared and rolled. just so i can take a full car :)

Should be ok as said as long as you dont carry passengers. My 9's on the back are fairly good, they only scrub over really bumpy roads. II should think et25's ruinning 195/45's is pretty much the best combination there is. You may need to roll the outer arch lip slightly, but this is easy with a hammer.

You WON'T need spacers, it will make the problem 10x worse.

hmm. i carry passengers quite regularly, usually 1 or 2 ppl in the back + a sub + box weighing about 30-40kg.

like i said currently i have the sub, carry around 2 ppl in the back and have 7.5x17 on 205/40's and never get any scrubbing apart from either full lock or if i go over speed bumps too quickly.

it may be that the prevoius owner had the arches rolled slightly becuase the 17's came on the car. although he didnt really mention it.

i suppose only one way to find out is buy the wheels

Your 17's will no doubt be et35. That means 8j et 25 will poke out an additional 16mm. Thats a hell of a lot. I was running et35 16 7.5j and they never once scrubbed. As soon as i put the 8j's at the rear it was a nightmare (they were et20). Assuming its not already been done, you will need to roll the arches, and will definatly need stretch tyres, 195/45r15 would be ideal, but make parking a nightmare!

i might be able to get hold of some really pimpin wheels.

theyre 8.5 all round ET15, how would these fare.

bearing in mind the outer lips (bbs splits) have been changed. the wheels were 6front + 6.5back and have had 2.5" + 2" lips added so both rims are now 8.5's

i pm'd tomo (on this board), he running 8 + 8.5 RS's and says he dont get much scrubbage. he reckons his et is 27 or 35.

how would the et15 vs et27 or 35 make a differnece. would it increase scrubbing?? p.s. im no good with offsets.

There is no way tom's offset is 27 or 35.

I'm pretty sure its like 15 for 8.5s, or maybe even 12!

If it is a 2" and 2.5" lip then that means they will be 8" and 8.5", not 8.5" all round cos i am pretty sure as standard the wheels would have all been 6" wide. I think!

It will all depend how low you are mate. How low are you??
