VAG COM Problem :(

Post by alexperkins »

Hi all,

Me and Ben (PD) were fiddling with his car earlier gave the throttle body a clean, but the throttle body needs alignment.

So we fired up VAG COM, cable worked fine, but we cant access the engine module at all.

Works fine on my car, but bens just doesnt want to know!

Any and all help would be apprecaited.

Thanks!

default baud rate for the usb lead is 9600 any way according to device manager.
I did muck around with this because i was worried that the baud rate was to high and that the deviced where not communicating properly.

Also so modules work, Like the radio and instrument pannel just not my engine module which is so annoying.

Procedure for performing a Throttle Body Alignment on DBW Cars using KWP-1281:
(Check to see if the engine speaks KWP-1281 by looking in the top left of the Open Controller Screen Some examples of KWP-1281 engine controllers are 2000+ Golf/GTI/Jetta/New Beetle/Audit TT 1.8T)

Turn the key on but do not start the car.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Measuring Blocks - 08]
Group 060
[Go!]
[Switch to basic settings]
Once you do this you will see the top right display say ADP RUN. The TB adaptation is being done as soon as you switch to basic settings. You will see the values change and hear the TB cycle for the first few seconds then it will stop. Leave it in Basic Settings for about 30 seconds.
[Switch to Meas. Blocks] button and you're all set.

Be sure not to touch the accelerator and make sure the engine is NOT running when you do this!

That is the bit you need, but it has to be a registered, activated copy to allow you do change that setting - its a bugger!!!

If you want to just reset the TBA, leave the battery earth disconnected for 45mins and reconnect - it should work it did earlier :D

What problems are you experiencing?

Cheers!

Ive got it to work now, took a bit of fiddling with settings but i connected to the engine module fine.

got the fault codes up for the epc light, one of the problems was a leak in the air intake so i will look at that some time today.

I reset the fault codes and it turned the epc light off which is good in one respect but it doesnt mean the problems fixed.

cheers for the help.

Sorry to bring back an old thread. But i need help with vag com. Have a usb lead. Wont connect at all. Do i run it as usb or as com3? As i thought the software that came with the cable was to make my computer think it was a serial port.

It says its found the interface under com3, but wont connect to the car at all. It also says the car isnt eobd compatible. Surely this is all just b****x?

Please help me!

COM3. You need to go into device manager and double click the port in Parralele and Serial ports and assign it to com 3 - pm PD if you have any trouble and Ben is a master at getting it to work :P
