1.4 TDI Smoking

Hi
I have a 2006 1.4TDI (70ps) Polo S. When I rev through the gears at around 1500 - 2000 rpm and from 2500 - 3000rpm i see quite a lot of smoke coming our expecially when my foot is down.
much more noticable in the evenings when someone behind and can see in their headlights. smoke is a greyish colour, not black or blue.
Also before starting the engine when the key is in the ignition the gearbox light stays on, then after the engine is turned on this goes off.
getting around 440 miles from 40litres of fuel.

Just wondering if this is normal.

yup sounds perfectly normal mate! if the smoke wasn't greyish then it could be something worse but it sounds like you have nothing to worry about!
mine smokes alot, but has just had a service and MOT aswell with no emission problems wot so ever!
