at college ive a module which is a double project and were basically making something which includes research ETC... ive decided to look into gearboxes for the afh engine andwant to know what causes the afh box to break... whats the best replacement..
ratios... of a good replacement so i can work out 0-60's top speeds etc etc etc....
ive posted something simular before but i cant find the thread..
the main part of the project is to build something out hte end of it some i would probily manufacture the adaptor plate... along with the adaptor plate maybe somewhere to mount the starter motor if nessasary...
what have other people used to replace the box other than the standard box...
whats the flaws with refurbing the standard box im guessing the same problem as why they break in the first place but its another question...
are there any kits avaible to rebuild the box from quife etc???
LSD's???
final drive/ diff kits???
as its a possiblilty to build a uprated gearbox... i know thers a guy on here who said the AFH has bin taken to 200+ NA so obviously the box has bin uprated...
anything will be apriated really
thanks...
mat...
AFH gearbox college project just need to no some stuff HELP!

flaws of the Polo gearboxes is the interior flow of the oil/lubricant. Whenin fifth gear, the inner-works get hot, but at that part of the box the oil is restricted in it's flow, causing a worsened spreading of the heat, making the fifth fear brake and damage the total interior of the box at some point in time.
Other boxes used is a Renault Clio one, the sequential one to be precies, for motorsport usage. Look at the website of Sorg Motorsport, they already have an adaptor plate for this
(to mount it on a vw engine)

renault clio lol kinda random lol which box is that??? we talkin lik off a williams or newer???
that sorg motorsport is kinda in german cant say i can read it recon you might be able to send me a link to the adaptor plate???
do you know of any other boxes used ive gota get a wide range...
tis a good decription of why box goes though... does that mean it is wise to keep an eye on the gearbox oil level on a regular basis to make sure it doesnt get low...

if i were you i'd be ringing the places that rebuild these boxes (vw tuning places would be a good start) and see if they have any broken bits out of gearboxes, you can tell a huge amount from the damaged parts and would make for a really interesting project - better than "someone on a forum said that....." (not doubting what people on forums say but its good to have evidence)
i saw some pics at work recently of damage to some bugatti veyron gears, they have wet clutches so the oil is not ideal for gearing under heavy loads so some quite distinctive wear happens.
