Have you got a Haynes manual or a Porters manual

All in there - easy to understand - simple to follow and with pictures

fuel filter

Post by sonic »

greetings

i changed the fuel filter on my p reg polo last week

my english isn't good so don't depend too much on my instructions.

1. take out fuse 18 or relay 168 then start your engine.engine will run for about 15 secs.

2.jack up rear of vehicle

fuel filter is located on the top SIDE of fuel tank

3.the pipes connected to the fuel filter are secured by clips that are a bit ch to take off.use flat end screw driver to loosen crimp type clips
or use a plier or any other suitable tool.make sure u don't dig into the pipes.

4.unscrew the bracket that supports the fuel filter

5.remember that on the fuel filter there is an arrow that points towards the petrol pipe that goes to front of the car.
<------

6.carefully slide of both pipes on side of fuel filter.
2 ways
rotate filter , grip and carefully pull petrol pipe
or use flat end screw driver to PUSH of the pipes.do not use the screw driver ON the petrol pipe or you're screwed :)

7.filter will contain lot of fuel once removed.place your old clothes under vehicle to soak up spilt fuel.

8.go to vw and get petrol pipe clips for 1.96 each

9 . the rest is easy.
