VW Polo S reg - Steering locked when driving?

Hi, my polo s reg 1.4cl steering locked when driving, the engine is still running but some dash light came on.....I had to turn off the engine and restart it and all was ok......only happened twice but not good! Any idea's what this could be!

sounds like an odd one to me! also sounds like you have a mk4, so i'll pop this in the correct section and hopefully we'll get some answers!
