Remote central locking

My Polo 1.2s has remote central locking, however, the previous owner had the dealer change the way in which it functions (child safe).

When pressing the unlock key once, only the drivers door unlocks and the rest remain locked. When pressing the unlock key twice in fast succession, all remaining doors unlock.

The boot unlock button doesn't seem to do anything apart from flashing the indicator lights twice.

I understand that these settings can be changed with vagcom but I am not sure how to do this.

Please can anyone help ?

yes, you'll need to take it to someone who has access to vagcom - if you're lucky you might be able to get it done free of charge.

I had mine change to a single click to unlock everything.

I have no idea why your boot unlock doesn't work though.....

Thanks, I do have vagcom and suspect that it is something to do with the central convenience module but not 100% sure what codes are required to change this.

Does the boot unlock problem sound like a fault then ?

never heard the boot unlock not working, but anything is possible.

for the VAGCOM you're best off looking at the Ross-Tech site or the Ross-Tech WIKI site, or even logging onto the uk-mkivs.net golf site and asking the question there......

or just wait here and eventually someone will know!

Looking at the wiki on Ross-tech, there is a "trunk lid remote unlocking" feature but I am not sure what this does ?

Also, I stand corrected - the boot unlock button does actualy unlock the boot but still requires the handle to lift the boot. This car has a power lift feature which means I shoud be able to theoritically "lift" the lid by pressing the boot release button on the remote controller ?

hmmm I've never thought that it has an auto lift feature. my old passat had one but mine also doesn't lift itself in the polo.

nor would I want it to - if that went off in the garage...... bang!

Hi David,

You're right, it doesn't have an autolift feature, however, it does have a catch release feature.

Does your vehicle release the catch when you press the boot release button on your remote ?

I think that there is something quite not correct with your logic, while the handle releases the boot catch, it probably only does so by operating the release electrically - ie not directly, ie the handle is more a switch than a release mechanism. The boot release boot on the key fob only "unlocks" the handle so that it can be activated. The Passat that you were refering to as having electric boot release must be the B6 Passat that is fitted with a boot spring instead of a hydraulic stay.

Hi RUM4MO,

Yes, you are correct, my logic is faulted but on my friends BMW, pressing the boot release button on the key fob releases the boot catch eletronically i.e. simultaneuosly unlocking the boot lid and performing the same function as the "switch" on the boot lid.

When I was running through the VAG-COM tests recently on the polo, one of the tests actually did this exact function by releasing the boot catch electronically and displaying the red "boot lid open" light on the dash board.

So the function definately exists on the polo but I am not sure if it can be triggered from the key fob.

Any comments welcome

WRT the bootlock not releasing, when the car is fully locked up, if you grab the boot handle it will only move a very small ammount. If you let it go and press and hold in the boot release button on the fob for a few seconds, then there should be an audible noise of a mechanism moving and the indicators should flash and the boot handle should be free to release the boot so that you can open it. I think as with the remote central locking, you only have a few minutes window to open the boot or it will re-lock the handle. A few seconds after you then shut the boot, the handle will lock back up and the indicator lights will flash to confirm operation.

One thing, is the rear hatch a tight fit - ie have you tried pressing down on it while operating the remote boot release - by doing this you will be taking some of the load "off" the release mechanism?

One final, maybe, bright idea, but I don't know if this applies to the Polo 9N - a lot of cars with central locking AND a bootlock with a "key opening" can be set to always leave the boot lid locked by rotating the key in the lock - maybe through 90 degrees. If this feature is not set then the boot lid lock "follows" the state of the door locks (and the petrol flap cover lock). I hope that this solves your problem.

Hi RUM4MO,

Apologies for not replying sooner - I've been investigating further but haven't resolved the issue. I've checked the key lock position but this was already in the "unlock" position.

The boot unlock button on the remote does unlock the boot but doesn't take the lid off it's latch. Are there any 9N's out there that can remotely unlock the latch ?
