serious? its really not worth that tim honestly from experience....constantly thinking it could go anytime!

its just such a shame as the GTI is such a cool little car
Well my mate can get my box out for me no probs, so nearby repairers aren't an issues anymore, which is good as I'm sure I can get it done on the cheap with a few guys in the know on here or elsewhere.

We'll see anyway, I'm skint right now, so I may feel differently when I have the cash ready to spend lol.

Cheers for the Replies.

I suppose the only real way of checking would be to stick it on the rolling road before the work and after to get an accurate figure of the gains. Even a gain of 15 to 18 BHP is worth doing if you can keep the price down.

The gearbox is a concern but I dont let it worry me. If I wanted to spend alot of money then I would go for performance cams but again your knocking even more life off the gearbox.

I agree with Tim though, if the box goes then it goes there is no point worrying about it because you cannot enjoy the car thinking like that.
I will be doing all of those modifications that I listed at some point regardless of problems they may cause.

I agree with this part. I'd love a 1.8T Polo but prefer a tuned 1.6 (even if it's more work/money and less power - call me mad!). I don't think VW put as much effort into the 9N3 GTI. It doesn't look as good.

The mods listed in the first post, along with cams should see 150-160bhp

im with mouse too. i know it will cost me to tune the 1.6, but i plan to keep the car for the next few years, so i don't mind spending the money.
