Always Hot !!! :(

Post by Lordnikon »

My climatic heater unit is always churning out hot air. Even with the aircon set to on and the temp turned right down its belching out and boiling me to death (almost). A couple of searches have indicated it will be the recirc valve and recirc motor (more than likely). So bearing in mind VW have quoted me stupid amounts of money to fix these, can anyone give me a rough idea on what to look for and what parts i am replacing ??

Appreciate most of the dash has to come out which i am happy to do, just want this fixed and have sometime off work to do it

Any help appreciated !

Stripped most of the dash out (centre console/glove box/pass airbag etc) and it seems to be intermittent. One minute it will now pump out cold air, the next its warm, the next its just hot hot hot. A/C seems to work ok so thats something

Had this problem fixed [under warranty] by VW - apprently it has to do with replacing a temp. sensor and a flap motor thingy. All I know it would have cost circa £500 at the Main Dealer to fix, less at your local trusty Indy.

Conflicting stories about whether or not you cna fix it without total dash removal - I couldn't say either way (sorry :( ) but it is a pig of a job.

I've ruled the temp sensor out as it now does blow cold if you set it at extreme to the left (ie: blue dot) and hot if you set it extreme to the right (ie: red dot). I reckon on the motor to be honest, although it must be working or it wouldn't be alternating between the 2 extremes. I've got most of the passenger side dash out, still cant see the part i think i need though ! :(

Theres a couple by all accounts. One in the central dash vents and then another in the foot well airways too. I'm only working on the dash one at the moment as i dont use the footwell heating option, and i believe they are independant.

My air conditioning failed at 4 years old and it cost £500 to put right at Crewe franchise. Parts replaced were air con evaporator temp sensor and recirculation motor. Just had air con serviced for £75 at same place.

Let me know the outcome, mates just bought a fault reader so may get him to see if there are any faults logged.

Got it on Vag-com this morning. Thanks to Regal Autosport in Southampton for the free useage ;-)

Got the following results

01271 - Positioning motor for temperature flap (V68)
01596 - Motor for outside/Recirculation air flap (V154)

I have reset both the codes and run the tests on the motors and they both error'd again :( - need replacing by the looks of things.

Span into the local indy VW place and they wanted to vag-com it again (£52) not best impressed ! Then said they had to wait for the techy to come back from lunch before they could give me a price ! :(

IF you've got most of the dash out can't you replace these bits yourself???

Have you had a look on some other sites, ie the Seat and/or Skoda ".net" ones as I think that they have covered this on the Fabia and maybe the Ibiza - all these cars will be the same. Evaporator temperature sensor definately and more than probably flap motors replacing has been covered.

Yep have checked on the other sites, and spoken to a good friend who's a master tech (unfortunately not local) and the temp sensor seems to be fine. IT would error without a doubt should it be cream crackered. Mine hasn't so it would appear to be ok
