I have a Mark 1 1987 polo and the temprature gauge needle has stopped working but the red light is flashing on and off constantly and the car rumbles and stalls sometimes at the traffic lights. No other sign of over heating though.
I have checked the water level which is fine and cannot see any other problems. Any ideas what this could be ?
Thanks a lot, appreciated the help.
Paul.

Re: temperature gauge faulty? No the sensor
Appologies for re opening an old post, but my son has an '87 1043cc Polo as his first car.
The temperature gauge reads full hot all the time and the red light is flashing, so I suspect the sensor needs changing.
You mention 2 sensors attached to the thermostat housing.
One is the temp gauge sensor...
What is the other one?
Which is which?
