Re: winders to electric
There is a possibility, but the polo window switches have more than 6 wires going into them as they are a quite a complicated switch!
Re: winders to electric
Not half dude, I've been working on it for about a day now.
I had a shunt in my car, and needed a new door and bonnet, wing and front bumper, some arse hit me in the snow..
Anyway, got the car fixed up with silver panels just now, (doing all the work myself), so its just temp till i get a spray.
I bought the doors off the guy, cause they both had electric windows in them, and i needed the change, i hate winders..
The wiring is certainly a barstoord.
At this point in time, I've worked out the drivers side has 20 wires going from the car to the door, and the passenger has 15~..
I'ts not simple, but its do-able.
I've got the windows to work just now (they just needed a permanant live feed), so I'm looking at getting that tidied up.
But I also want to get the passenger to work with the drivers side, and the locking system (lock/unlock), so it looks like a few more feeds.
Once the permanant live is in, i'll probably use ethernet (8 core, and small), so run the rest of the loom.
I know the loom isn't there, so unless you're good with wiring, its gonna be tough.
I'll try and get a write up though, see how it goes.
But at this stage, both windows work independantly!

Re: winders to electric
indeed it certainly is a pig to wire up. I wouldnt use ethernet though adam - the wiring uses quite high current to do certain functionality, so I would use proper loom wiring if you can - best thing to do is get the car and door side of the wiring loom connector, then make the necessary joins on the car side to make it work with minimal wiring running between the car and the doors through places its not really intended for.
I did work it all out at one point, and ordered all the necessary wiring to do it too! In all the correct colours too lol.

Re: winders to electric
I'm only using ethernet for the signal cables (that operate the switches); and its working fine.
I used ~20-24AWG wire for the main feed, 'cause i know the current its carrying..
And then another run for my central locking, which can carry about 3-4A, so fine for the locking.
And I'm nearly done! Windows are in, and functioning, and so does the lock/unlock on the drivers door.
I just need to loop up the drivers to the passenger (so i can use the passenger window from the drivers side).
Only had one problem so far: that the drivers window doesn't go down itself..
And then, the colours for operating the passenger on the drivers side, don't match with the rest of the cables on the passenger side, so i don't know what does what.
I'm thinking of just using the switch on the passenger, and piggybacking onto that.
Any ideas on the auto notup/down, and the passenger feed?

Re: winders to electric
lol each to their own, not something I would do but oh well :
have you got a Haynes manual - its very useful for the leccy window wiring lol
Ill see if I can dig out my workshop manual on the leccy windows and see, but if you have the manual in the meantime as I said its quite helpful.

Re: winders to electric
I know it doesn't sound safe, but it's holding just now, and the wires don't heat up on use, and there is very little voltage drop across the main feed.
But if you could look up the diagram, it would be a great help!
It's just the driver's passenger switch to the passenger loom that i don't know what does what.
And what could the problem be with the auto up/down? The window works fine, but it won't retract itself, or return?
