Weak/poor boot floor design

the boot on the Gti is the worst design i have ever had on a car,

The floor is litterally just a piece of thin board carpeted with hinges on, you cant put any heavy suitcases in their as it would make the floor sag and warp.

The spare tyre underneath doesnt even support the board which would havebeen a good idea, and around the edges especially the boot lid edge it doesnt even touch the lip around the edges.

Have you guys come up with anything to sort this out? I am nervous to put anything in there at all!

i made a mdf false floor matey - spreads the load across the boot... so hopefully wont sag... also taken the spare out and sound deadened it all... works and sounds better

still creaks like mad though lol

Don't know if it's different in my gt Tdi but i have had a gearbox sit in the middle it bent a bit but not snap or anything. Working in a paper/card factory I know that this sort of stuff can be made uber strong

I agree that it looks really flimsy. However, I've put heavy stuff in the boot before and it hasn't been damaged or anything, so I reckon its actually decently strong.

Quite disconcerting though, seeing the floor bend when you put a suitcase in!

i think im going to try and support it a little more from underneath. maybe find a way to have it proped up by the spare, mine is warping already and dips a little

i don't have a spare wheel, i have some black foam that is in the spare wheel area.
it hase a air-compressor for the tyres and other stuff people need when they have a flat tyre.
it supports the floor pretty good.
if i remove the black foam piece i would not dare to put weight on it...

I'd say that your best plan will be to look out for a spare wheel as putting foam in a tyre that has been badly gashed is not going to work - and that might just cause you a problem when you don't have the time to wait to get moved to a tyre place at an odd of night etc. I know someone that did get a car with this stuff, ended up with a gashed tyre - that stopped their intended trip away from home after only a few miles, needed to get RAC'd home then call out a mobile tyre fitter who needed to order a tyre, three days later the car was back on the road - remember that could happen to you! I had already advised this person to get a steel spare to avoid this sort of thing happening, but his luck just ran out - he has a steel spare now though! Oh, and they did not just get taken directly to a tyre place as it was "out of hours" and in this situation you only get one "trip" out of the recovery companies - and they did not want their car and its holiday contents left outside a tyre place until it next opened (theft etc).

thx for the advice, i'm aware of that.

but to be honest, i never have anything in the boot...
i don't have a back seat in it and the black foam thing wich supports the wooden plate + the wooden plate itself are not in my car.
i drive around on bare metal inside
my mind is in a constant program of "full race"
so i'm pretty screwed when it comes to having a flat tyre, but i never go verry far away + it won't take long for someone to evacuate me if needed.

if i do take trips with the car, at least i have the tyre fill foam with me or a spare wheel or so.
but that doenst happen often ( if not... never... )
