Getting a better sound out of a 1.4 tdi??
Hi guys, I want to get a better sound out of my 1.4 tdi engine and so I was wondering if anybody could shed so light on how I could go about doing this, whether it be a remap or an exhaust change, or something completely different to that but I just want something a little bit nicer than the tractor noise I have now! Thanks...

Putting a 1.8 turbo makes it sound really nice!
Sorry, i realise that this is no help to you at all but it had to be done.
a good service with all filters changed and small exhaust?

The only way ur gonna get rid of the noise is get a petrol the noise is the explosion in the engine u can make it souls bit better by removing all the silencers and cat keep it the same size then when u change it will wistle sort of. But on idle you will never get rid off the noise

Best method of improving the sound of a diesel engine is mentioned above...... a petrol engine transplant
Joking aside your best bet would be a performance exhaust running a de-cat
Your never going to get it to sound good though, they always have that Canal boat heavy knocking sound

Ok all jokes aside haha, I wanted to changed my exhause for a nice shiney one so i can have some twin exhaust tips poking out the back but dunno what to change to, any suggestions?? keep the jokes to a minimum!
Re: Getting a better sound out of a 1.4 tdi??
pretty limited mate as above but yer get a decat but please dont put a shiny exhaust unless its a decat with a gti back box
and remap it no point wasting loads of money of a small engine buddy

Keep it stealth mate if u get a bigger bore it will hide the gear change turbo woosh keep same size bore just remove all boxes so it just a pipe

See a few other people have said put a straight pipe put through but I'm to sure about how I go about doing that! And as for keeping it stealth, are you sure? I would quite like a twin exhaust coming out the back

Re: Getting a better sound out of a 1.4 tdi??
Cheers haha... Is it a big job to put a straight pipe through? I'm really into the looks of my car right now as the performance of a 1.4 tdi cannot be changed much but when I can afford it I'm gonna buy a gti but right now I'm gonna stick with looks.... I could just get twin stainless steel exhaust tips to put over my existing ones i.e these ones:
