Calling all GTi owners. need a favour!

Post by Tim_GTi »

I'm pretty sure Im right in saying that all GTis have a black interior roof trim?

I was wondering if someone could do me a solid and provide me with two part numbers.

I'm after the part number for the interior light and motion sensor trim, both pictured here:

How do you get them off? Dead simple, like this:

They just pry off, and the part number revealed on the underside.

My local VW couldn't locate them from simply altering the end of my grey trims, I don't know why.

Thanks in advance!

Tim, would you want to get rid of your old light? If so how much? I've broken two now! (don't ask, embarrassing story  )

Embarrassingly I've broken my own!!

Took it apart to check the length of the festoon, and didn't realise the delicate operation involved in putting it back together. I bent all the metal connectors to complete the circuit, then snapped one re-assembling it. That'll teach me!

This new car is a jinx, that's the second thing I've broken (first being the cup holder!). Maybe I should stop fiddling with it.

Although the silver lining of breaking the light is buying a black one. I was dreading having to spraying this one, as i had visions of the finish not being perfect and/or it wearing away over time where you push the buttons.

Literally laughing out loud!

That's exactly what I did to mine. Lived with it for about 7 months, found a cheap one of eBay about 2 weeks ago 10 minutes away from me. Broke it doing the exact same thing literally 2 minutes after I returned home from picking it up

They don't go back together once taken apart, ie if it ain't broke...

Interested in the part numbers too then. Are you rocking black sunvisors too then? Think it'd look a bit weird without.

I need a new one as well lol.

Took it out to put some ambient LEDs in and broke one of the map lights  Then while drilling holes in it for the bulbs it slipped and made the hole too big. Patched it up with some glue for now but looks a bit of a mess... teaches me not to put something on a cardboard box before drilling it.

We should have some sort of club!

I'll make a guide when I have the part number and parts to go in!!

The two 501 bulbs are easy, they just twist.

I've worked out a way of getting the festoon bulb out without splitting the unit, I'll share when I do it!

First off i didnt even know you could get a black interior light , so can you get black grab handles and sun visors?
If so what are the numbers for all this, i likes the sound of a few black bits on the light grey!

All of the interior pieces (handles, visors, pillars, etc) are available in black - the GTis are fully black.

If you get a really small flathead screwdriver, you can remove the clear plastic cover to access the festoon bulb. This also reveals the 4 tabs that hold it into the headlining, and which need bending in slightly with a screwdriver if you want to remove it gently. They aren't particularly sturdy though so you can just pull it off like Tim says.

My memory's a bit hazy, but I think the two map lights (501) are in holders that you can twist out from the opposite side of the unit. Basically it's easier to do it with the light removed.

Yeh the two 501 bulbs are just twist out.

The festoon bulb you could get out with a lasso made from a drinking straw and string. Or popping out the lens sounds interesting.

The grab handles are the same as the Lupo GTi ones also, I used to have the part numbers for them. They're over £20 each though so a set is £80+. I'm spraying my old ones first to see how they come out.

Back to the original point. Can any GTI owner provide me with the part numbers?! :D

The lens is quite easy to pop out. Remove the two bulbs for the map lights and push it out through the holes. It won't break.
