True but I have seen that the plates can be upgraded to handle more torque.

Me too, I'm not averse to opening up the dsg box as I had a quaife diff fitted on the Ed30.

Anything is possible given enough money and time.

Ok then, first up, I've decided on the alloys and going for these little beauties. BBS CS5's

Should fit perfectly on the GTI as you can get them straight off the shelf at 7.5" x 17" ET35.

Currently they are starting a group buy off over on another forum too so should save a few quids 8)

I'm going for the silver ones, but you can also get silver/black or silver/anthracite.

Second purchase will be a shiny new RNS510 Rev C (LED) with built in bluetooth and video in motion thanks to another mate off another forum.
He'll also fit it for me and it'll work with the MFSW I ordered with the car. 8)

All for the cost of the RNS310 too - yippeeeee!

I didn't like the OEM offering of the RNS310 that comes as an option on the GTI as it has less features and only a 5" screen - I need the extra 2 inches!

Next up - brakes.

I'm currently in discussion about developing a brake upgrade that should cope with the track use the car will get. Image

Specs are:-

AP 4 pot alloy calipers
Developed carrier to fit Polo GTI
2 piece 330mm discs with alloy bell.

Overall the kit should be lighter than the OEM set-up and should stop the car on a 10p piece

Hey Hurdy, nice to see another defector from the Golf scene :D

I sold my Golf in April and got a new Scirocco but also bought the wife a new Polo SEL so frequent quite a few of the forums.

I have to say the new Polo is a fantastic little car, and the wife is so pleased with it.

I still pop along quite often to the MK5GolfGTi forums, so might so you over there as well.

BTW, you going to inters this weekend. A bunch of us including Mortygttdi (Darren) Golfman (Scott) and Apollo13 (lee) are all going up on Saturday, so might see you there with SteveP if you go ?

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately I am working long nights this weekend, so I'll miss Inters for the first time in eight years :(

I spotted that you'd got the Scirocco and Polo - good choices 8)

Don't worry though as I'll be about for other shows/meets. I'll also be seeing Darren (MortyGTTDi) later this year for an audio upgrade.

Great spec! :D didn't fancy the tinted rears then (just about the only option you didn't go for)?

I agree the RNS310 is an odd looking unit the RNS510 is excellent (have this in my MK6 GTI) and the RCD510 in my Polo. What mods do I need to make to the RNS510 to play video on the move? Is it just a software upgrade and config change? Also is it possible to change this so it will play video from an iPod?

I had the tinted rears on the rear of the ED30 and always thought it looked a little out of balance. If I tint the Polo it would be front and rear with some security tints 8)

Have a word with MortyGTTDI (Darren) over on MK5golfgti.co.uk as he is the audio guru I'm consulting :)

I ended up going aftermarket with a Kenwood double din head unit on the ED30 as I wanted Video on the Ipod and couldn't get it initially with the OEM satnav :( Although I don't know if the RNS 510 now has the specs to accept Ipod video format.
