9N3 GTi or Fabia VRS?

Hey guys,

Yep i'm back, after selling my red 6N and owning a MK2 Golf GTi for the last year, I am slowly coming round to the idea that maybe owning a newish car is going to be a better idea. My girlfriend has a 1.4 9N3, and it's a good feeling getting into a car in the morning and knowing it's going to start!

Been looking around the last few months and the two cars that have caught my attention have been the 9N3 GTi and the MK1 fabia VRS. Fuel econamy is not particularly a worry, as I only travel 2 miles into work, but I occasionally do a bit of motorway driving to go to my girlfriends. Obviously I have done some research on both models, I prefer the interior look of the 9N3 GTi, but the Diesel PD130 in the Fabia and its value for money is swaying me.

Insurance is pretty similar, about £150 extra difference if I had the GTi. Budget is about £6k tops for a VRS or £7k tops for a 9N3 GTi. How much 9N3 can I get for my money? I couldn't find a buyers guide either, what and where should I be looking? Anything to avoid?

Try and tempt me over the VRS, after owning a MK2 Golf I am looking for a VAG car that I can get in, go (in comfort) and even have a bit of fun in.

simple fact mate stupid silly power is achievable with the gti, yorks on here is running 480 bhp i think? iv got a polo diesel and if economy wasnt an issue id snap a gti up over a tdi any day!

Look at darkside developments for extreme derv tunning
Pd130 is good for 300hp
Polo gti engine is about the same maybe a bit less.

After them figures your talking £2000 for engine build at least

On revo stage 2 polo gti will go to 240BHP Thats on standard ko3s turbo.
Whereas for pd130 you'd have to upgrade/hybrid the turbo to achieve the above or more results.

Not really looking for massive power gains to be fair, probably just a couple of small bits enginewise plus a boost guage in the right airvent.

I'm after a black 3 door GTi, ideally with leather, winter pack (heated seats and headlight washers) and digital climate control. Low mileage (around 50k-70k) and have a budget of about 6.5k - 7k. Can I get the car I want?

What do you guys think of these two cars?

One has full leather, winter pack and digi climate and lower mileage. Gash wheels though which suggest it might have had a bit of a thrape?

had both and ive gotta say the vrs wins everytime for smiles per mile, econemy, build feel (better than the polo i think) its comfier than the polo, torque and 0-60 great with a remap, i had under 6 secs in my fabia! there very very quick and even better with a bigger turbo, with your price range you will find a very very clean vrs with mods inc big turbo and i bet you'll still be left with a grand in your pocket.

go for it mate its worth every single penny, plus prices have come down rather alot since i got rid of mine.

not to pee on your parade buddy, but no one will pay 9 bags for a modded tdi... If you find the right buyer whose willing to pay that then thats fair enough, but don't forget you will never get back what you spent in mods, I'm struggling to sell my polo at £9k and thats stage 2 as is yours!

In total I have spent £14k on this car buying it etc. mine is a bit further than a stage two really.

Doesn't mean it's worth 9k. Every car has a ceiling price no matter the condition or mods made etc.
