02.02.2012 - Engine Cover

I decided the other week to not spend any money on the car for a while as I've just had to spent so much repairing him. But of course I realised I couldn't keep to that for long. So decided that I would limit myself to £20 a month lol

This months present is a new engine cover :)  as I had had it in my watch list for aaaaggggeeeeesssss, and was 1/2 the cost of all the other ones on eBay,

Image

The old one managed to develop a massssive crack it in.
So rather then buy an exact replacement, I decided a while ago I wanted a 1.4 engine cover as it doesn't have the section at the bottom or the section at the top that goes around the air box (cut this off on the old cover, but it didnt look fantastical) I still need to mod the cover slightly to fit, but it should be a nice a easy job and look better then before.
Will get it dipped along with a few other engine bits when I can afford it

Next month I think I'll get some carpet material to cover the back of the rear seats :)

The engine cover looks pretty sweet! Gotta sort mine out, last time I took it off I kinda snapped it :S

Going to sand it down cause it was only the top bit that covers the air box that snapped so it should look a little like this (if all goes to plan haha)

04.02.2012 - Engine Cover Fitted

Got around to fitting the Engine Cover. Used my good friend the Dremel to cut the holes in needed for it to fit. just had to keep popping outside into the snow to see what needed to be adjusted, was very time consuming as i kept having to shave tiny amounts off, so as not to make the wholes too big.

just need to get some screws to hold it in place, as i lost all the ones that held my old engine cover in place.

Ended up buying another small present for the car (so much for my monthly money limit   ) and have some other goodies for the engine bay. just gotta sort out what sizes I need (Having the polo off the road sucks, otherwise i could just take it to my mate and make him do it all haa  )

Not sure if I like the engine cover or not but fair play for doing something different :)

I think I prefer the engine running no cover, looks a bit more sporty without it because the plastic cover can look a bit tacky IMO.
Good thing about the OEM covers though is that you can run a BMC CDA with it still fitted which looks pretty smart, did it on mine for a while then ditched the cover.

Cheers for the comment dude :) At the risk of maybe sounding really girlie: Ive hated having no cover for the last few months, i think the engine bay looks 'prettier' with a cover lol, The old cover was ok for a while, but was never keen on the section at the bottom or at the top, once the original air feed came out. So this seem liked the perfect compromise :D

Nice to see somebody doing something different :) I have seen a few people with fancy paint jobs on their covers and that looks good too.

Did you repaint your rocker cover Verity?
It may be worth checking out the OEM BMC throttle body 90 degree elbow too because all the aftermarket elbows never seem to keep the BMC Straight, most tend to tilt the filter on an angle which basically results in it sitting directly on the hot Inlet manifold.
The BMC elbows are £12 and are black so dont look very bling but do make the filter sit right in the engine bay (mine is running the BMC Elbow in that picture)

Cheers forthe advice! Will most deffinatly look into that!! My induction kit is a complete bodge. When jack first did it he used this weird tubing. Ummm can't think how to explain it, but was really flexy. It got a hole in it. So repaied it, but got another. So frustrated and loosing love for the car he made what he could with what he had.
The plan is to get black silicone hoses, and Black ceramic coated pipe. So basically everything's black with just the red of the rocker cover. So what you've suggested sounds perfect!

As for the rocker cover, not yet, haven't the money do get it sprayed lol. It's such an utter state ATM. Applauling! Lol

Yeah the BMC hose is the best IMO because it’s a perfect fit and looks cool too :)

When I first bought my BMC from Kam Racing they supplied a SFS blue hose which was far too big for the throttle body and only just cleared the bonnet.
The BMC hose is a perfect tight fit and its very small so doesn’t stick up too high, you also don’t have to tighten the jubilee clips very much like you do with the aftermarket hoses.

Rocker cover doesn’t look too bad, deffo needs to be repainted but least it isn’t flaky & scabby

09.02.2012 - Rear Seats Carpet

The colour match is crap. If I ever get round to doing my boot build I'll re-do it as well as my stealth shelf and false fall so it all matches. But it'll do for now :D
