Need brake info before I buy

Post by morells »

Hi everyone iv been looking to upgrade my brake set up on the front to the 312mm on my gti and have seen some for sale on eBay they say for mk4 golf s3 and tt are these the ones and also how much should I be paying for them you can buy the brake clippers and carriers for £195 on eBay or you can buy them with pads and discs for £275 and I was wondering is this about the right price for them or not? Also will the fit inside my standard 16 gti Monza wheels? All the info is much appreciated :D

Those calipers and discs will fit no problem.

I managed to get a used set which needed painting but with nearly new pads and discs for £150 there are deals to be had!

are they really needed?

my standard setup is astoundingly good, stop after stop.

the key with discs and pads is not to buy cheap. even a 312mm setup using cheap discs and pads will be cack.

For factory power the standard brakes are fine but if you are thinking of remap then it is definately needed.

Even though mine is 150 (not for long), the difference with 312mm is massive. My kit has the EBC brake disc and pads :D

I found the standard brakes to be shocking even with genuine pads.. For £150 I got a lot enter stopping power!.. Still not as good as I'd like that's why I will be upgrading discs as pads soon but this is a worthwhile upgrade if you drive the car hard! My brakes used to fade massively..

Question:

I've got the ones that you link to that cost 275, they are great. Seller is great too.

However, need to replace the ones at the back now. I don't know what to get though? Standards are fine I guess, but look so silly and small compared to the new front ones xD
