6n2 1.0 oil breather problems

Post by Joshh6n2 »

Hi I'm having problems with a lot of oil coming out of my oil breather which comes off the rocker cover, how much oil should actually come out of hear if any? I don't want that oil going down my inlet. I first noticed when I acidently left the breather off my air box then after a while of driving I smelt oil so popped the bonnet to find loads of oil in my engine bay. Any help is appreciated :)

Have you still got the factory airbox fitted?

You will get some oil vapour out of the left hand pipe, but it shouldnt be that much.

Piston rings are worn i bet.

Get it compression tested.

Ye I did have te factory box fitted then fitted a k&n induction kit filter and led the breather to te filter and now there's engine oil all over my new k&n :(

And I was thinking it could be piston rings, I'll have to check compression then but I hope it isn't the rings

I can tell you exactly what it is

On a 1.0 there is a second pipe that comes out of the rocker box cover. In the factory airbox, this has a one way valve on it that allows air INTO the pipe, but it cannot breathe outwards

If you do not have a one way valve on this pipe and have fitted a breather to this secondary pipe, itll spew oil everywhere very quickly.

The only pipe with a filter on it should be the left hand side crank case breather which is the bigger of the two tubes.

A pcv valve, it stays open on tickover and as revs go up it shuts, sometimes they stick open allowing oil to go straight into airbox.

It is and isnt a PCV valve. It has a one way breather on it, which will not allow it to breathe out ever. It can only breathe in

I fixed it by putting a one way valve onto the pipe with a little filter on the end

I've also fixed it by using parts of the old airbox though its a bit of a cheeky method

Search on eBay for one way valves that match the diameter you need

Sounds like piston rings are goosed. Happens to my 6n2 gti. Spitting oil out the breather.

Is the car using/burning oil?

@ben. It's not the normal crankcase breather in question.
