How hot does the oil get in your Polo's at normal driving within the speed limits during the winter?
Had a discussion with a mate and he meant his got almost 10 degress hotter than mine and we have the same car.
Please write which model, engine and temperature.
Mine is a 2013 BlueGT and it lies at roughly 70-75 degrees.

Re: Oil temp during the cold season?
95-100 then 105 - 115 when spirited driving.

Re: Oil temp during the cold season?
Always above 90* once up to temp. Rarely 100*+ when pushing on.
Re: Oil temp during the cold season?
I would say high 80's or low 90's when pushing on, 2010 GTI.

You asked a question, you've had clear replies. Why be critical?Mart!n-GTI-DK wrote:Are you guys sure those are temps from wintertime at normal calm legal driving??? I'm not.

70-75 sounds cool for oil when up to temp. More often than not, oil generally runs at coolant temp or higher.

It's not unthinkable that that it's the same temperature as the coolant. That's not really easy to tell.alexperkins wrote:70-75 sounds cool for oil when up to temp. More often than not, oil generally runs at coolant temp or higher.
Since 1997 VW have made their cars so that when the coolant is between 70 to 110 degrees the temperature gauge will allways read 90.
Because they felt that people would get nervous when the coolant temperature could go slightly up or down.
But yeah. It sounds to cold to me too... That's why I was a little sceptical about the answers people had given... It's only down to -2 to -5 degrees outside here... I would think it should still be possible to keep a higher oil temp.

Hi Martin
Thanks for starting this topic, as I thought my temp was running high (at 98) since my first 10,000mile service.
I have a manual BlueGT and normal (gentle) running it will be 90-95. More spirited driving will be 95-98. Not seen the digital reading higher than 98.
Also glad you mentioned the dial on dashboard, it is hugely different to the digital readout. Last couple of times, i've watched needle reach 90 and then checked digital readout, it reads 50-60. Certainly made me drive more conservatively until I know engine is properly up to temp.
