EGR valve issue possible DPF problems? Please help

Post by Bimi1978 »

Ihave a VW Bluemotion 1.2 Polo. Approx a 2 month ago the emission control lamp came on. I took the car the vw service/dealer and after checking the computer and fault code they told me that the EGR valve need to be replaced. As they have quoted me a ridiculous amount of money I took the car to a local specialist where the EGR was replaced. Just before the fix I realised that the car is torque limited, was only showed acceleration over 2500 rpm+. . But the replaced part didn't fix the a torque issue, and after only 60 miles on the motorway the emission control lamp came back on again.
Is it possible that using the car with the faulty EGR has damaged the DPF system, even though the actual DPF warning light only came on once during this period and I mainly use the car on the motorway.

EGR should damage the DPF. A faulty EGR will put the engine into 'safe mode' limiting the power output

Unless it is properly calibrated and reset when replaced, the issue will persist.
